Hm, perhaps a somewhat less overt display of divine care? Our compatriot's, ah, in a bit of a dangerous mood at the moment...

Poke at our memory a bit: do we know this person?
Extend a hand and a smile. "Rise, sister. Let not those who suffer here stoop with bowed head-- those who have given so much already."

"My heart weeps for you, my children who have suffered so yet remain resolute and faithful.  The winds of change are blowing, and the storm clouds that menace this Holy City will recede into the horizon in just a little while.  It is always darkest before the dawn, but the sun always rises to banish the shadows of night."

"You must hold on a little while yet, and continue on as best you can.  Your bravery and integrity are inspiring in these troubled times.  I will bring you the victory you deserve."

That seems fair, but I don't think Emma would hurt someone for hugging us.

[12] ...this was one of your battalion. You never caught a name, having only noticed her during one of the endless inspections. She was always laughing and flirting with her comrades. Her only hand hesitantly takes yours, and you gently lift her to her feet as you speak softly to the crowd.

[10][20] It's difficult to muster your willpower for something other than intimidation, but after you finish speaking, there isn't a dry eye or a stooped head, each man and woman standing. Those on the outskirts have left, or joined within the crowd, moved as the rest by your benediction. The blonde, scarred, one-armed woman grips your hand tightly, tears burning at her face.

"Pl-please don't say that. Give us something-- give us a task, give us an order, a command. Please. Please." The crowd is agreeing with her,

We've... obtained a small army of cripples.
What on earth are we going to do with a small army of cripples?

They deserve better than this...

...My first thought? Nationalize the Thornton Warmachine process. We could draw off this lot, give them new limbs-- better limbs-- make of them a proper fighting force, arrayed under our banner.

We'd have to figure out logistics tho. Not sure yet how to go about that.

Hmm.  That could work.  Let's send them off to the Thorntons, to fight if they are willing, but otherwise for shelter and doing whatever they can to help.

Maybe something like this: "I will send those willing to our allies, the Thorntons.  If you wish to continue the fight, you may be fitted for prosthetics there and join us in battle, but otherwise you may take shelter there and labor to strengthen our manufacturing capability."

I'm... tentatively willing to back that up. Only thing is, do we want to talk to William about this before we send a whole bunch of people his way?

We have Emma on hand, we could ask her.  "Emma, could the Thorntons take these people in and give them prosthetics if they would like to continue the fight?  Those that don't want to fight could take shelter there and do whatever they can to help, such as strengthen our manufacturing capability."

Aye, that'll have to do.

[-] "William was intending to do that anyway." Is Emma's terse reply, "You just gave him recruits a bit earlier, and the labor base to set up the factory." She shrugs a shoulder, "No doubt, he wouldn't mind."

The crowd looks confused at the exchange, before turning their hopeful gaze back to you.

Hm, how are we doing this? Do we send this lot back to the cargo ship, or all the way back to Villa, or what?

We'll escort them to the compound where our personal guards can direct them to the cargo ship and a Thornton pilot can transport them back to the villa.

Mm-kay. Not sure if the cargo ship can carry all these people at once, but we can drop folks off at the compound and work from there.
Should probably meet with Iyal first though... something tells me the extra attention would be unwelcome there.

Nod, smile back at the crowd. "It seems I've a task to offer you after all."

"I will send those willing to our allies, the Thorntons.  If you wish to continue the fight, you may be fitted for prosthetics there and join us in battle, but otherwise you may take shelter there and labor to strengthen our manufacturing capability."

"I must be going a short time. I'll soon be along back this way to escort anyone interested to a meeting-place."
