Tekkud Stardusts Yearly Review 361

The year of 361 has been peaceful, we still remain a community of 65 strong. This has been a great relief after losing Ilral egunbridges to old age many of the older residents had feared the worse. Ofcourse many of us within the community had fears for our Baroness, with her being in her early sixties she could soon come face to face with Prince. That is to say, if Abod the Prince of Duty braces our presence. It has me pondering about the current king of our civilization, truely an ancient being, he claims to be 425 years old and yet still looks unaged perhaps the Prince will not come for us for a long time. With the dour mood as the new year approached, a group of us organised to have Brewer Bob make the Baroness a special surprise.

By the end of spring the new statue was errected, in honor of our amazing leader.

This new craft seemed to jolt something within old Avolition, as the faded plump helmet man eagerly limped towards his forge. Soon the ploom of smoke billowed up as the forge ignited once more. He later appeared and started to gather people around as he unveiled.

As the year grew old, i noticed Iteb curiously reading a scroll, I glazed over and she was reading The Capybara Man and The Monsterous Olives, my first work. It was nice to see. She asked why a book of fiction was with the autobiographs and i just said "my mistake" as i chuckled to myself.

It was soon four very important birthdays as they were to become adults. First was Oddom Rackknight, upon his celebration he instantly knew what he wanted to be and has decided to become a woodcrafter. No doubt after making his artifact Trampleverse some years back had inspired him down the path. Likot and Lor welcomed him to the profession.

The next day was Atir Archsinged who seemed interested in undertaking gem cutting. Insisting he will practice on rocks first before he touches any of our limited raw gem stocks. I am not sure if this job will last but time will tell

The day after that was Iteb Workgray who practically insisted that i take her on as an apprentice in the library, whilst i said she can certainly help out in the library i need to understand her writting abilities before i can undertake such a role. For now she is doing her own research. Mostly around the flask. I suspect we might have her first work soon.

The last one was lil baron himself, he unlike the rest wasn't too sure what path he wanted to undertake. He seems to mostly be socialising and whilst the job of fisherman was suggested. Due to the ice this has not been seen. However he has been spotted socialing around town so perhaps he seeks to following in his mothers pawsteps.

Ooh! Nice to hear a report from Tekkud's perspective. And seems he finally got to write something (I have to admit, I probably hadn't remembered to make any empty scrolls or quires)!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Also, perfect placement for the statue! The empty space was left precisely for that purpose, and what better statue than one to celebrate Mrs. Waxedtiles? (Though I suspect grumpy Kudpa might be of a different opinion.)

Most of the kids seem to choose the path of woodcrafter, which I guess is quite fitting for Waterlures.

About fish, I'm actually not sure if the fish supply from the area has been depleted. I think I lately got just "no fish to catch" messages and didn't see anyone dragging raw fish, but then again I didn't pay much attention to it.

Yeah thought it would be the approach. I think I made a bunch but he needed years to do more research that book I believe was authored some time ago but they have no announcement so they do fell under the radar. But our newest scholar appears to be currently researching so we could have a new book

Yeah, I thought it looked empty and needed something and asked for a statue of baroness made of marble and it was a masterwork which is even better.

It's the artifact ones as they have insane skill after making an artifact so they gravitate towards it.

Also if there any particular job path you want lil baron to undertake wasn't too sure what the little fella would do so I just put him on fisher duty in the meantime. I see it as relaxing whilst thinking on his future.

Fisher duty sounds fine! You're free to choose the paths for the children (no restrictions on that stuff). So, anything you think is fitting, go for it.

It's sort of odd that most kids have made wood artifacts in their moods. Usually it's just bonecarvers I get from kids who've had their mood.

nice update, and artifact! Also what a funny book. Merely a list of things getting stolen, written in ( surely ) a bitter tone.

Tekkud Stardusts Yearly Review 362

The year of 362 was a scary year to say the least. Where to start. The year was as peaceful as ever, the newest adults have been settling into their roles. Ofcourse Baron still seemed unable to work. It seems the fish that were once bountiful within our waters had slowly disappeared. Our ecology books suggest that overfishing is often such a cause but i don't recall us having done too much fishing which might suggest some kind of enviromental change. We decided to restrain from fishing for now, not that you can catch anything anyway. We hope that fish will migrate and return to our waters but time shall tell.

During summer, heavy footsteps were heard as Egul Bristleberry the Large Scribe, the ettin came to raid our village.

However his pounding footsteps made his approach obvious and our monk friends were waiting for him. Song the Monk hid in the bushes with the rest of her squad. As soon as the ettin approached Song punched the ettin in the foot causing it to sickenly twist as the sound of flesh ripping followed by a large thud was heard. Then what could only be described as an absolute beating occured. The ettin vomited onto itself as it striggled to break grip. Attached is the fight records as best as were described. The killing blow was given to Song Scarredhex as she pounded the beasts upper body into a fine paste.
Spoiler: Battle Report (click to show/hide)
A few months later it was time for some more birthdays, Cerol Giltfences was first. He showed interest in the products of our beekeeping endevors and has decided to take up wax working. A fine craft indeed that requires a skilled hand. Hopefully we can start to see his goods soon.

Next was Kogan Girderreigned, after a week of him struggling to think of a job. It was suggested he take up being a tavern keeper of our other tavern. The hope being it might allow him to work on his shyness. This will take time ofcourse but we are hopeful.

Then was Aban Colorwhips, he seemed to take interest with Avolitions forge and after making a carved note. The plump helmet man seemed to nod before stumpling and then limping towards the forge. Certainly he is getting up in the years, his once bright purple hue has become more sun bleached and crumbly. Aban has of late started wood burning, he is not sure why he need to learn this first but i guess its to get him used to the heat before he works on the forge.

Lastly was Datan Futuretours, he as a child had maded a giant tortoise shell gauntlet known as Blamefear the Erased Sewer but he seemed highly interested in mechanisms and gears often loaning certain books from the library to get inspired. He has started working on the mechanisms and various mechanical devices so its safe to assume we will have a new mechanic.

As the year draw to the close the familiar sounds of heavy footsteps were heard and once again a loud thud soon after. It was Elo Sportquest the Call of Bejeweling. Seemed the giant thought he could do what the Ettin earlier in the year couldn't.

But before he could engage our squad. He encountered the human guild representive and their two crossbow wielding body guards. The fight soon became identical to that of the ettin. Vabok Bronzeposts, one of the dwarves was attributed the final blow however due to the mess of the body some suggest it was Song and others suggesting another monk entirely. Needless to say the community is safe and secure. Attached below are the battle reports as best as i could transcribe.

Quite the year the denizens of Waterlures faced!

That poor, poor ettin. What a brutal beating. Those elephant man monks sure are no joke with their fists. Also, looks like Edu (I think he's the spear master) got involved too, beating with his crutch and gnashing with his teeth. I guess he might bear a bit of grudge against giantkin after he lost his foot/paw to the cyclops.

Tekkud Stardusts Yearly Review 363

It appears the Prince has arrived upon or fortress on the eve of the new year. When Aban entered the forge on new years day, he saw Master Weaponsmith Avolition hunched over the forge unmoving. He soon gathered the rest of us and we had to think of burial sites for the fungi man. We decided to finally sort out the crypt. It had been meant for us citizens but someone had burried a bunch of animals in there. After removing all the animal bones and building new caskets we were ready to begin. Brewerbob constructed a masterwork marble coffin and the plump helmet man was sealed away. Being a plump helmet man he was unable to communicate in the normal fashion. He was able to read via braile and limited communication was afforded. No one really knew of his history, all we knew was he must of been trained in smithing by the dwarfs due to his technique and that he had a knack of weaponsmithing. We were unsure if he even had a family out there. It was a sorrowful spring.

On the 15th of Felsite i decided i would offically take Iteb under my wing and teach her scholarly pursuits. She has such potential.

The rest of the year was mostly silent as everyone worked, the towns crypts were being organised and a clear sign that read "CITIZENS ONLY" was errected above the entrances to ensure no more animal burials occured. Aban has offically agreed to undertake weaponsmithing and armorsmithing should the need arize but he still seems to be following his own goal of furniture and crafts. He was still following Avolitions training and is mostly smelting. He said next year he will try and make some crafts and put the little knowledge he learned to use.

As the end of the year approached, wax goods seemed to sell well, however the practice stones used for gem cuttering weren't as appealing to the traders.

Ofcourse another bunch of young capys would enter professions this year. Firstly Litast Razortongues, has taken up brewing. Seeking to make great drinks unthought of.

We then had Fikod Livingglazes who took up a more solid job as a stoneworker.

Fath Ironorgan has decided to dabble in carpentry, woodcutting and woodcraft

Lastly Olon Seerlances has shown an interesting in medicine and will become a doctor for the fortress working under the forts witchdoctor. Perhaps some magic might rub off on them.

I pray that the next year doesn't herald another visit of the princes arrival.

Oh no, not the plump helmet man!  :'(

Avo was one of my favorites... One by one they begin to drop.

...but at least the shroom died peacefully of old age and not in the hands of one of the giants. Pity he never fully recovered from his wounds during the early years of the settlement.

(Oh, those tombs were actually intentionally for pets, but it's fine to relocate their remains and repurpose the crypt hall for Avo's final resting place. I think he'd probably rather be interred there than in the new dirt catacombs where Ilral was entombed.)

Lastly Olon Seerlances has shown an interesting in medicine and will become a doctor for the fortress working under the forts witchdoctor. Perhaps some magic might rub off on them.

Good thinking there. Yawo won't be around for long, so an apprentice is certainly needed.

Yeah it was sad, didn't think he would go so soon but he did. He had not much time left anyway but the forge is in good hands now.

Yeah the goal is to try and plug the eventual gaps i see here. I also see i missed a piece of the story that i will ammend now but in late spring of 363 Tekkud Stardust accepted Iteb Workgray as his apprentice. So thats cool, also might chuck Olon Seerlances in at somepoint as medical training seems to rarely come into play but i know that dragons still roam the world and i know they will come at somepoint.

Also not sure how much longer i will play before returning it. Thinking 364/365. Also the giant kea's are very laggy. Good thing i exterminate them. I can play for longer but i don't want to take too long with it. Plus i miss your writting. Will still take a few years in the future if thats still happening

364/365 sounds like a good plan. Rather not longer than that, since I'd like to do some stuff with several characters before they die of old age.

And yeah, the giant keas... I think I added several extra z-levels to the sky in world gen (maybe 3?), so it could have affected how much they cause lag? But exterminate is the way to go. No need to go through the frustration of sudden FPS drop and try to kill them with the archers.

@AvolitionBrit, what's your schedule with finishing your turn, any idea?

If you're able to finish it by the end of the week, it'd be great. (But if it's too soon, I can wait, of course.)

I've got quite a bit of my modding project done and a distraction away from it would be good. So, Waterlures would be a good way to have a break from that stuff (since I apparently always end up using my spare time one way or the other on DF related stuff).

(Also, quite the capybara itch starting to build up.)

Oh, nice!

Waiting to read the final report and pick up the save.

But looking forward to getting it back to you and seeing your writtings on the Capy's so detailed and articulate. Also let me know if your busy again as il happly pick it up again.

Glad to know you like the writing.

I'm usually never too busy (for the near future), but I'll certainly try not to spend all my spare time on the capies this time (as to get other projects done). So, when folks know when they'd have time for a turn, just send a message and I'll get the save up and an overview done before that (this includes you too @Salmeuk, if you're still interested in having a turn).

RIP Avolition. A chapter comes to a close as we lose the oldest and most experienced Capys.

keep me updated, I will throw in for a turn at some point, but business is eternal this time of year.
