The weapon that is most versatile and can kill, im looking to be able to kill megabeasts as fasting as possible

I vote a pack full of adamantine tipped baliista arrows + throwing skill.  Lightweight and deadly.  Not entirely sure but they should be effective melee as well.

Normal weapon wise I would say a pack full of high quality pikes, or a high quality crossbow with high quality bolts.  Keep a hammer around for bronze colossi though.  No one weapon is equally effective against everything. 

If you are forced to only have one weapon a two handed sword does fine for me, but it's less specialised than a spear or hammer and will be less effective overall.

Assuming you can't get your hands on any of that stuff then I recommend a spear or pike on anything but a bronze colossus. The spears do pierce damage with is ungodly lethal against organic targets. I killed a dragon with an iron spear in a single blow (ok I fatally wounded it and it passed out and took 4 turns to die but still)

That or legendary throw skill plus throwing arrows/weapons is usually pretty effective. Watch out for the dragon's breath though, as it consumes a distressing amount of space each time.

Yeah, spears are seriously useful for taking out a megabeast.  A stuck in followed by a long series of twists can finish almost any megabeast (warning: do NOT try this against bronze collosi).

For the record, you can kill a bronze colossus with a copper spear, shield, a little wrestling, if you know what you are doing, and have a little xp built up...not really recommended though.

I personally prefer a spear and warhammer + shield with some throwaway whatever stuffed in the backpack.

try throwing swords at bronze colossuss / any thing with no organs at thay can cut leams off.
