First time using LNP; first and foremost, great job guys.

Now on to my question: generating new worlds is giving me gigantic worlds (yay!) which are filled with sprawling megalopolis... how can I tone it down?
I assume this is the "-Custom World gen (Lazy Newb World)" mentioned in the readme file so how do I "reset" the worldgen to generate less populated worlds?

hiya, if you're using LNP 5.0, this is a known bug from DF 31.13.

what you can do about it:

a - stop world generation early, say year 150 or so.
b - switch to LNP 4.6, it works great!
c- wait for LNP 5.1, lots of bug squashing in 31.14, so it might be well worth it to wait.

Remember to have FUN!!!

Thanks for the quick answer, guess i'll wait for LNP 5.1.

Cheers and keep up the good work lads. :)

I tried that, Escaping around year 850. Result is the same, the continent is totally occupied by settlements leaving few to no suitable embarking areas for me. I tried 31.14 - same problems there, so, how exactly do I generate a world where the good spots isn't taken already?

Stop earlier. Stop at year 50. Either use a custom worldgen and have the end date at 50, or just start generating the world and then press escape and then.. IIRC to play that world.

Well theres also a new world-gen parameter in .14 called "SITE_CAP"
Just do a custom world-gen and alter that value to something really low.

Do you know how long it will be till you get .14 up? I really want to play with sprawl, but .13 is an odd number, and I've come to rely on this.

You could always just download Phoebus or Ironhand seperately, and then Dwarf Therapist

Right now its not "me" getting the pack out. I'm waiting for other utilities to be compatible. (and for graphics, Mayday should be updated by today)
In the meantime, you can just download the compatible bits separately, and move over to LNP 5.1 whenever it can be out (couple days? week?)
Or just stick with 4.6 for now!

I generally like to wait for DFHack and Stonesense before releasing a pack,  but if it takes too long I may release another early pack without them.

With the rarity of Dungeon Masters, would the inclusion of the noexotics script be a good idea?

You bring a good point. See originally I did have no-exotic included, but then DF Config did it. Now that DF Config is dead in the water (for now?) I might as well bring back no-exotic. Or I could potentially write it into the .bat script too.

That'd be nice.

Also, I'm not a newb, but since I've got a new computer, I've decided to contribute to your download count...out of laziness. :P

Hey there!

Newb question:
I apologize in advance if this is a well known problem, but I couldn't find anything on it, and I don't even know whether my problem is with DF itself, the LNP or the tilesets.
I have some font problems. Several characters, mainly letters with diacritics and the lowly comma are represented in the menu entries, dwarf names etc with their respective tileset symbols (a comma for some sort of rock etc.) Slightly annoying...

Any tips, or welcomed scoldings for not being able to search a forum?  :-[
Or is this utterly normal and will only be rectified once Truetype-Support is fully implemented?

This.

Some tilesets (I think there is an alternate Mayday tileset if you look in the art folder) will have periods INSTEAD of ground, or periods overtop of ground. But some tiles are just hard-coded to be used in two ways like that.
Also /most/ diacritics generally are just TAKEN OUT in most sets.

But yes. All this will be fixed once TTF is fully implemented.

Dang it Lucas, I'm too used to your sets.  I was so used to the convenience of having everything readily accessible in one download.  I was so used to having it auto save every season, making sure I wouldn't forget to save if I needed to shut down ASAP.  I was so used to the graphics, the settings and the mods bundled with this package, that without them I'm just so disoriented.

Shame on you for making Dwarf Fortress so streamlined.  I'll just have to get used to vanilla while you work hard on the new pack, you monopolizing elf.
