What I usually do is take a heavy glass pie pan, which fits perfectly inside the frying pan we have, and press the sandwich down when it starts cooking. After that it usually stays down on its own, and it works every time. No explosions yet, at least!

That, and I really doubt that the circulation would affect how your ocular nerves work in that context. Perhaps something else is causing that?

The other heart attacks make your heart beat TOO quickly, so not enough blood is pumped around the body.

Since I suddenly felt my heartbeat, maybe my blood pressure went up for a few seconds? Perhaps the increased blood flow to the capillaries in my eyes caused the reddish tint?
