I'm not filling the will?

What will?

Wasn't aware of wills in DF, is that some sort of noble thing that I've somehow missed?

No just as a story-telling thing if you look back a few posts before my guy lost control of the fortress he wrote a will in blood saying that the fortress will be lead my a military regime lead by the militia captains one year at a time and they will all rename themselves to conan/whatever/whatever/whatever. And then I sent a PM to each of you saying who you'd like me to dwarf you as and you said you didn't want to be military, ignatzami said morul the axedwarf, and conan and dariush didn't reply

Ah, ok.  You don't want me to have anything at all to do with a military.  Never used one since the military was all borked up and made more complex.  I'm learning it at my own pace now, in a no-dwarf embark though of my own, and know enough to use existing dwarven military if need be.  I'm more logistical and trap and craft oriented.

An ultimate statement to dwarven insanity: force a shitload of workers to constantly pump magma when it is possible to do that automatically by adding a single link.

In a stunning display of lack of punctuality, I actually got to the game only now, got a minotaur on the second day and discovered we lack an entrance and ME. Now, a question - since I started in the middle of autumn, 1) how long should I play? Until the spring or a whole year? 2) Do I need to pick a dorf to be killed die?

We do have entrance, though not very good, just go out of the fort proper then up one level and down besides where some guy was sacraficed.

1. The usual rule seems to be "one year or one year and then spring, your choice". Not my thread, though, so it could be different.
2. YES

All right, this fort is even more strange than I thought. For example, there's a ramp that doesn't lead anywhere:
Top:

Bottom:

There's also a door that I can't select neither with 'q' nor 't':

Can anybody explain what's happening?

I'm responsible for the door I think, I built it then pressed remove so I could replace it with a magma-proof one except nobody got rid of it and I could no longer select it

EDIT:

There is a freak weirdness with constructed fortifications that allows items to be stuck inside them.  It's one reason why I prefer to build walls, then carve fortifications into them.  Take a close look, see if that door is sitting on a fortification, if so, see if you can d -> n deconstruct the fortification, then remove the door and rebuild what you want there.

There isn't a fortification there, I know because I built it myself including most the walls...

Also, if you build walls first, you can build another layer of wall directly above it, removing the necessity for telescoping towers or fancy floor work.
