It isn't too dangerous to harvest, at most you'll just have skellies to deal with, 100 obsidian makes 5 skulls.
And you need 2 obsidian for each bar of hellstone ore you make, so it's good to start stockpiling early

I already dug down, there were no blue shrooms. I was quite unlucky.

All the blue mushrooms I got were from another server. Though next time I think I'll just take some blue seeds if I can find any.

I find it highly improbable that your map is devoid of blue mushrooms.  You're not looking hard enough.

My entire map? Unlikely.

However here is how my map is divided

In the center is a nice forest. Then to the left and right are corruption... then further right is the sea, further left is the dungeon and further then that is a Meteor pit on an incline (so I can't dig at it using my usual Gold pick forcefield strategy)

So I really have to work at it to dig in any other locations.

Yeah, time just fucking disappears with this game. I tend to look up at the clock and go 'oh shit, it's 4, and I barely got anything done!'
