It is strange how much less satisfying end game content is in a sandbox game. If Terraria included a “YOU WIN!” screen and story line, people would care much less about the fact that they had seen all the content. They would still lament the lack of replayability but I think they would generally feel more satisfied.
In a sandbox game, however, you are always building up, but there generally lacks a goal. At some point you have to stop and look at everything you have and the goals you have set for yourself and say “Why? Why complete this task?” and then the apathy sets in.
I guess you could say sandbox games have a life cycle and most of us have reached the end of that life cycle. Now we can all look around and say “Well, I guess that is it then,” and sub come to disappointment.
But in reality, Terraria is a pretty good ride. Even getting 10 hours of fun out of a 10 dollar game is a good deal. I have had almost as many laughs from Terraria as I did from Portal 2. The game is well worth the price tag and anyone on the fence should buy it.
Now that that mini review is out of the way, I want to know who will host a PVP game! The rules should be as simple as possible, but there should be a clear way to win. What I am thinking is…
Two teams, east and west, all new characters.
Each team is given 24 gold bricks to create their “Core”
First team to lose their core loses the game.
You can only attack an enemy base during the night. Any bases are defined as ANY building with a hand crafted background wall within view of the core.
Everything else goes. You can rebuild your core if you want to waste the gold on it but it can’t be bigger than 24 bricks. You can quickly build up your rooms and hope to capture all the NPCs, you can surround your base in ebonstone to distract your enemy, whatever you want.
I say we pick a day and play some PVP.
