Not really. It can be used to block doors without putting yourself in harm's way, which is always welcome. Also, I just got an idea for a PVP mode from it just this second. Dirt Rod Race, move a piece of dirt from start to finish without it touching the walls!

So I checked the height at which that mountain of mine went from "filled with copper and iron" to "filled with silver and gold" and the bottom of the lowest silver pocket was at about 225 feet above ground. That seems to be the cutoff for a small world - anything above that is filled with floating island metals.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to see if there are any more mountains in this world that go that high.

Floating islands always have a building with a treasure chest on them, though, so I'm not sure that that's really related in any way if you weren't finding those (I'm assuming you were theorizing that the floating islands were swallowed by mountains, or were the mountains, or something to that effect). It's probably just that mountains have different (better?) metal content.

Flippers. They won't help you breathe longer, but you'll get to the surface much faster. If you're trying to get a chest, you'll have enough time to loot it no matter how deep it is, especially if you just empty it into the water, go up for air, and then go back to autopickup the loot.
