Also, North is left and South is up. Have fun.  :P
Now that is something that both I and Rhodan can agree to disagree on.

The ninja hiding behind in our room must be impressed with our ninja skills.

Just accepting what the game says because it's a game and set in another world doesn't always work, some concepts are immutable.
If the information given by the game is relevant to the game itself, then it's safe to assume that it is correct (unless we're talking about bastard games that outright lie to you).

Here, this is the actual bit where I disagreed with you about something. Some kinds of information have to be consistent with the real world as well in order to be truly correct, such as the cardinal system.  Hence the east is 90° right of north raging, since that is something no game should ever change no matter how outlandish their solar system.

All done now, though.

Unless it is clearly explained, such as a planet which rotates the other way.

He's dead.

Okay, now we're heading to the real of pedantry I think. Technically you are right. That I can agree on. My problem is when you say things like
East is always traditionally right, and west is always traditionally left,
because who gives a fuck about tradition.

Or things like
If someone switches east and west in relation to north and south,
Because I have never argued that and neither does the game so it's stupid to even bring that up.

since that is something no game should ever change no matter how outlandish their solar system.
Unless it is clearly explained, such as a planet which rotates the other way.
Actually it's one of two things.
1) What you just said or
2) people calling left West should use a compass more often.

The issue seems more a game design ideal. You could have a planet that revolves the other way, but why would you do that? Unless it's an important part of the game, like having fantastical planets that can randomly have that trait, there is no real purpose to having alternate cardinal systems. Any fantasy feeling it can inspire is less than the ease of use in a game where knowing where things are in relation to eachother is important.

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

I disagree with citing in-game sources as correct.
...in-game sources ARE correct. By definition. If you don't trust the game ABOUT the game, then there's no way to prove anything. Heck, if in-game sources are not valid, I could claim that, say, the demolitionist does not like explosives. Now, if something else in-game contradicts it, THEN you can call it false. But until then, facts stated BY the game ABOUT the game, are true.

(Not that any of this MATTERS... and frankly I doubt the devs have put as much thought into it as these last pages have. The sun rises on the left because we read from left to right, and so anything else would feel odd.)

The game is actually face East or West, depending on which side of your map ends up being the most snowy. (North... or South... is always colder, obviously)

Terraria is actually a non-euclidean planet with no cardinal directions whatsoever except those arbitrarily imposed by the game entities.
