I could be remembering wrong, but I thought you could select the bin then select an item inside it, it would select the rest of the items and deselect the bin and the single item. You could then reselect the one item.

Did you turn off throw hauling labors after you set the trader to go to the depot? He can have jobs queued up that he will finish whether the labor is enabled or not, I believe

So I just ran into an "Oh shit" situation, taking a break and thinking about saying goodbye to my character. Here we go:

I have some scrolls of teleportation, so I suppose I could get away for a bit if I'm lucky. Unfortunately, the level below had a second ogre and the named mummy guy who was kicking my arse. I might try diving another level. Taking a break from that char and playing an enchanter for a bit.

I guess the most impressive I remember is when I had a hunter prowling the area. The only thing she finds is a panda, so she gets close and takes a single shot that pierced it's heart and had it bleed to death. She had just come with a migrant wave and was, at most, adequate at archery and markdwarfship.

I just started playing, this is the most enjoyable roguelike I've played so far and is very accessible compared to the others I've played. I keep dying to silly things like poison though, but I'm having !!fun!!

You know what would be really funny?  When your dwarves catch whales in it.

I thought you were going to say something about Mormon dwarves in this new Salt Lake Ocean City

I tend to make large circular (as round as they can get) rooms connected by hallways with smaller circles around the large ones.

In fortresses with a lot of things to mine, I'll dig out veins and then square off the area the vein took up. This method looks fairly organic with a lot of different sized rooms that are unaligned with each other.

I tried once just now, but it ended very quickly after encountering swarms of badger men on the surface and then troglodytes underneath, along with a troll. Note to self: bring actual weapons for the soldiers.

The only fortress I had that became the mountainhome. It ended when I experimented with dropping a bronze collosus (still caged) off my death tower. It survived the fall through several layers of my fort, had the cage broken open, and proceded to destroy my unorganized inner defenses.

That lake doesn't look to big, it should spread out and dry up without much issue. Try installing a door into those 1-tile mines to prevent flooding into the main area, perhaps.

That was fantastic, with excellent references to the dwarf fortress world that sometimes is missing in other stories.

Cave it into a pit from beneath it, leave it trapped down there

I wonder if the RNG would give us hopping vampires with paper slip headgear.

I always thought they were more like zombies, but I guess I hadn't looked into it before

I was guessing you mean these guys

I unfortunately have to cancel my offer of carpooling from the seattle area as my plans have changed. I hope the rest of you have fun though.

I for one like the uncertainty of the etymology of Nosferatu.

As for the bodily fluids as alternatives to blood, I could only really see it if the fluids were found in good quantities in the victims. Seeing as how most other fluids in a humanoid body would be found in a fairly small amount, I don't think their main sustenance should come from it. However, a vampire considering something like tears or spinal fluid etc as a delicacy would be perfectly fine.
