To completely derail the thread, here's a link to an Ork empire forum game on another forum that I think captures the spirit of 40k pretty dang well. It's huge though.

It does get a little wall of texty, yeah, but there's an update-only thread. I like it mainly for the actual advancement of the 40k timeline it portrays.
