XD But Link rides a horse and plays an ocarina in an otherwise virtually horseless Fantasy setting. There's room for genre mix-and-mash, it's a forum comic not Shakespeare!

There's a difference between references to other genres, and believing the world you're in operates on the rules of an entirely different genre.

And how is riding a cow either?

Also, in the genre that Dwarf Fortress is, *not* picking up the sword is less logical than being a singing cowgirl.

If we got the cow we could strap the sword to the cow to carry it. Don't know where we'd get the cow, but you guys brought it up.

We just lure the cow to us with some grass. There's plenty here.

We haven't even seen the cow. lol   Lol at the grass joke, though.

Also, carrying a sword that's larger than you are, with zero weapon skill, makes you pretty much useless in combat, and that sword looks far heavier than a suit of armor, not to mention it's not sharp. It'd be faster and safer it just to leave it where it is.

Guys since when in DF does age contribute to not carrying a weapon? Scratch that, since when as it been that realistic? I've had children hunt with iron bows' and arrows'. Even on sieges sometimes (rare) would obtain nearby weapons and going in battle bravely, honoribly dying a warrior's death being decapitated.

+1 To getting the sword.

She could throw it at point blank range, followed by the cow.  That tactic has helped many an historic adventurer in time honored tradition.  Even better, she should weave a whip from grass stalks so that she can have whipped butter from the cow later on.

Incidentally, it's not a sword, but a dagger.  ALL adventuring cheesemakers own daggers.  It just looks like a sword because she's "small for a dwarf".  The dagger will most likely be a multigrasp tool, but is a requirement for all adventuring cheesemakers nonetheless!

We could use the cow's horns as an improvised weavery. The pointy piece of metal could pretend to be a needle.

That's what fish bones are for, but first you'll need to knap a stone to make a +sharp stone+ so you can sharpen the bone.

Guys. We don't have a cow. Do you know who probably has a cow, though? Migrants.

This. Good luck catching up with the migrants after you pick up the sword.

We could use cow cheese to bait the fish.

I doubt any dwarf would take a cow away from a fort with such a great cheesemaker as Misty.

Misty: Briefly consider acquiring the x-rhyolite greatsword-x. Decide that you'd rather not carry bits of a dilapidated warrior statue around. Whistle for your pet goat instead and take her along on your magical mysterious cheesemaking adventure. (Goat cheese making, obviously.)
