Title: Mission 27: Hurricane Team (ready)
Post by: piecewise on February 06, 2016, 04:45:34 pm
The Newbie Teams are going down with the express purpose of providing support to the vet teams, and as such you are all gonna be starting in the air, on your Shuttle.  If any of you want to pilot the shuttle manually, now is the time to say so. Otherwise I'm gonna assume standard automatic control taking voice commands from the team leader as the control scheme.  We've modified these shuttles for your specific use:

Normally there's only one exit on these things and thats the back hatch. These have been modified with a side hatch that can be opened in flight as well as a cable system on both the side hatch and the back hatch for quick lowering and raising of people.

We've installed a laser turret on the side hatch side. It draws power from the ship so it has infinite ammo, but be careful about over using it since it draws a lot of juice and as such can only be fired for a few seconds at a time.

We've armored the bottom side of the ship against small arms fire, so it should provide a bit more protection,

There's a broadcast system built in with a mic in the passenger compartment.

There are no stasis pods on this shuttle.

Keep all this in mind.

No sooner have you dropped out of your stasis pods than you're being hurried along by tingling sensations in your brain stem and mildly threatening commands over the intercom.

>I have I dial for the strength of this thing. I find that increasing it by 1 for each minute you're not on your shuttle is an effective method of motivation. Around 12 is where you lose control of your bowels. Hop to it.

You gather your gear and hurry from your rooms, floating towards the shuttles. Someone has helpfully installed a bunch of railings and hand holds along the walls while you were asleep, making moving around in the microgravity a lot easier. An angry looking man with a bat is hovering in the hall, tapping a metal bat against the wall.  He Points the bat at the group as you pass, smiling in a way that makes your skin crawl. You cycle through the hanger airlock and out into the vacuum of the hanger proper. Shuttles area already taking off, silently rising and drifting through the open blast doors and out towards the aquamarine orb of Trinity 3.  There are several steve bodies around; though they're now Robotic rather than synthflesh. One of them directs you to your shuttle, which is clamped to a wall. You launch up and catch hold, swinging into the passenger section.

After everyone is loaded on and strapped in the doors close and lock. The shuttle detaches and after that it's hard to tell exactly what it's doing. You feel acceleration, the occasional course correction and not much else for a while. Eventually, the sensation of gravity fades into being and you can hear the outer atmosphere starting to hiss past.

>We're coming in low and easy, Following Firestorm and Blizzard. Gonna stay up while they go down. Follow their lead, provide cover, bleed the rebel rousers and protect the line. First stop, Semilunar Bay Slums. Announcement system on Auto, weapons free, laser powered and active.

The side door slides open as the shuttle's thrusters kick in hard and bring it to a hover. You're about a quarter of a mile up off the ground, hovering above an expanse of rotten brown. Semilunar Island is a crescent shaped ridge of black stone and mossy vegetation jutting from the sea, and along its inner curve a floating city of shacks and tents has been erected, spreading unevenly out into the ocean for what looks like several miles. It's a great scab of rusted metal, sun rotted plastic tarps, black tires, multicolored nylon ropes, ties and metal barrels, all undulating in the surf. The sea around it is choked with garbage and stained with filth and anaerobic algae.  Hovering below you are Firestorm and Blizzard, their shuttles slowly searching for a good place to land. The other newbie teams hover nearby and you can see helmeted heads peaking out  and looking around.

>Beginning Transmission of the Truth across all radio bands, hijacked television stations and other communication systems as well as the shuttle broadcast system. Get ready teams, things are about to get ugly.

Scan the area from the air with thermal mode (enhanced eyes).  Stay aware of any large groups forming.  Perhaps check large groups with x-ray to see if they are armed, if possible.  Keep an eye out for weapon caches.  Continue these scans while the shuttle moves to new areas.

Pilot the shuttle, doing a quick circuit and scan of the slums, and areas surrounding the slums.  Fly evasively, with the goal of making the shuttle a difficult target to hit.

Time (and GM patience) allowing, listen in to the Truth.

Also look outside, looking for a good place to build barricades, and good sources of barricade material.

The slums are highly populated and a lot of people have gathered outside to listen to the broadcast, but there's no sign of any mass mobs forming, at least not for the moment. As per armed...hard to say from this high up. They're not much more then little blobs of heat.

For the moment it's best you follow the vet team, since your goal IS to protect them, after all. Breaking away and skimming the city would not be accomplishing that goal very well. But if you wanna do it, we can.

The broadcast is basically what you already heard. Just with a bit more background info.

poke head out, test if my wings can carry me and how much effort it takes to flap them, order draco to stand alert for anything suspicious (act like a guard dog basicaly)

hmm. How exactly do you want to do this? Like, stick one wing out and see how much lift it gets? Or jump out and try to fly?

Distribute socialist literature. To my non-union teammates, that is.

Also look outside, looking for a good place to build barricades, and good sources of barricade material.

You hand out some pamplets about the glorious worker's revolution.

As per barricade material, the vets haven't chosen a place to land, so it's a bit premature.

poke head out and see if I can see anything going on, are there large groups of people? Are they armed?

Well, the slums are highly populated so there's no doubt that there are large groups of people down there.  And they're no doubt armed, though with what it's hard to say. None of them seem to be hostile towards the ship, at least not yet.

Take literature.
You take a pamphlet.

Watch the ground.

You keep an eye on the teaming masses and the shanty town below.

look for patterns on the ground
On the natural ground of the island or in the shanty town? The shanty town has a few major streets, if you can call them that, but it is mostly just a cluttered mess.

Follow Blizzard's shuttle.

Craft some binoculars, if possible, and use it to briefly scan the crowds with x-ray mode to check for weaponry.

Keep watching for large groups.  Be prepared to make the shuttle dodge any incoming fire that our armor can't handle.

You stick a wing out. There's a lot of force on it from the wind moving past the shuttle. Probably not enough to fly, but maybe enough to glide.

Or at least descend slower.

Watch and wait.
be ready to do whatever is needed.
be an extra set of eyes, watching for enemy fire and warning pilot if necessary.
The Thumb twiddling begins.  You know what they say, war is 9 parts waiting, 1 part bleeding out.

Follow Blizzard's shuttle.

Craft some binoculars, if possible, and use it to briefly scan the crowds with x-ray mode to check for weaponry.

Keep watching for large groups.  Be prepared to make the shuttle dodge any incoming fire that our armor can't handle.

Craft binoculars with what, exactly? You just have 4 premade lenses to use sitting around in the cockpit?

Not that it matters, you can't physically look out of the cockpit anyways; you're in a metal capsule with cameras providing outside view.

Waiting, part 3.
Title: Re: Mission 27: Hurricane Team

Follow Blizzard's shuttle.  Drop off Sir Jackson on a ridgetop near Blizzard's landing area.

Dodge any incoming fire that we can't just shrug off.

Title: Re: Mission 27: Hurricane Team

Title: Re: Mission 27: Hurricane Team

None as of now...  Should I strike through the dodging action?  Perhaps it's unnecessary.  I just figure it's always possible there may be some danger next turn.

look around for a tower or high point below the shuttle, check fuel in jump pods. See how much lift I can generate if I hook the exoskeleton arm part to the wings and try flapping my wings.
The arm part of the exoskeleton doesn't fit well onto the wing, so what you'll more then likely end up creating is a broken wing and a short but fatal fall.

Waiting, part 3.
The waiting part 3 was good, but part 5, the revenge, was when the series really hit its stride.

Follow Blizzard's shuttle.  Drop off Sir Jackson on a ridgetop near Blizzard's landing area.

Dodge any incoming fire that we can't just shrug off.

You drop Jackson off, or at least hover down low so he can get off if he wants.

There's no fire coming in yet but the announcement finished a few minutes ago and thermal imaging is showing a lot of people moving around in the slums. Some gathering into quite large groups.

Title: Re: Mission 27: Hurricane Team
Post by: Nunzillor on February 12, 2016, 01:26:12 pm
Move toward the mobs and decrease altitude slightly.  Broadcast the following over the shuttle's speakers:  "we are here to assist you in undertaking a calm and orderly evacuation.  please wait patiently, staying where you are, while we ready the device we will use to evacuate you.  all who want to leave will be able to leave and will be provided with food and shelter.  if you do not want to leave, please return to your homes."  Are they mostly staying in place (except, perhaps, for those returning to their homes)?  No mass movement in any particular direction?

Add the following over the speakers and over civilian radio frequencies: "if you h-have any concerns, send them over the following frequency and we will address them as best we can:" Give them a radio frequency we can access.  Listen to it.

If possible, temporarily restrict Avalanche-1 and Typhoon-4 from all civilian radio frequencies.

Establish a text-to-speech connection between Dr. Gordon Freeman's (Avalanche-7's) wristpad and the mob-facing radio frequency.  If necessary, use my datapad to capture the text, convert it to speech, and transmit it through the radio at the provided frequency.

Marathon through waiting 1-3 so I can join in on part 4.
Since 4 (character) is piloting, let's say the exoskeleton-lending was turned down (as nunz suggested in chatter), so I'm still wearing it under the suit.
Prepare for combat by figuring out if I can hold the stunstick or knife with the cane metal. Maybe it can help keep me out of melee range. Grumble about melee weapons.

Oh, man! I'd skip to it, but I might miss some of the exposition part 4 has to offer.
They do a lot of build up of the background in 4 but the later ones contradict most of it.

Just wait till 7, Waiting goes to space. Or 8, Waiting meets the Harlem Globetrotters.

stick to the shadows, and head down the south side of the ridge with draco at the ready. Look around at the slums below and where the mob is.
From this distance you don't really see much. No fires are burning and you don't hear any gun fire yet. They must still be in the early stages of panic.

You break away from the formation and buzz across the slums, broadcasting your message. The mob appeared to be just a directionless collection of confused and angry people until you broadcasted your message. Now a lot of them are running back toward their homes while others are looking up at the shuttle. Some are attempting to  throw rocks or bits of garbage up at you, but none actually hit the shuttle.

Typhoon seems to have completely dropped off the  airwaves so you're safe there.
[1]
You can't figure out a good way to cut off another team's coms.

Marathon through waiting 1-3 so I can join in on part 4.

you'd be wearing the sharksuit under the exoskeleton, actually.

you can hold it like that, yes.

prepare for whatever happens in part 4 that calls for revenge in part 5

Apparently what requires revenge is the fact that more waiting needs to be done.

Fair enough.

Edit: I honestly don't see how that message could be threatening.  But perhaps my inability to see that is the problem...
Edit 2: What do you do when you've caused something terrible to happen?  Double down!

Give the civilians access to a frequency we have access to that isn't the inter-team ARM channel, please.  Restrict them from the inter-team ARM channel.  If this is not clear, please just restrict civilians from all channels that they shouldn't have access to.

Drop off the gunnerbot near Sir Jackson's elevated position.  Tell it to just stand by for now.

Jackson, however, decides he's had enough sitting  around and abandons his post to charge directly into the city.  He leaves his big furry whatchamacallit to walk down while he jets into the city and lands atop one of the taller shanties.  Unfortunately, shanty buildings aren't known for being up to building code, so the roof caves in and he falls straight down onto a table made out of an old door suspended between two saw horses. Luckily no one is in the building to see this.

Your announcement seems to be mostly ignored because many people have already gathered their belongings and are running for the path that leads to the portal. Though not everyone seems on board. Someone has already set fire to several houses near the western tip of the island's crescent and you can see the early stages of rioting starting. No one is attacking fleeing individuals yet, but people are starting to run into abandoned homes and steal anything of value that was left  behind.

Peek out the side door. If/when we're over a crowd, scatter leaflets for the awakening of the proletarian masses.
You toss fistfuls of leaflets down  on the seething masses. They completely ignore them.  Poor ignorant bastards.

I would do this but it's unlikely to have any meaningful effect.  If anyone has a better plan, I'm open to it.

As a fellow victim of gravity, I want you to stop for a moment and think about what you're asking for here.

You just fell through the rusted out tin roof of a shack that is floating on a sea of human waste. The denizens of this shack are refugees, people who escaped the destruction of their home worlds with little or nothing besides their own lives. You, on the other hand, are a paid soldier packing weapons and gear that are worth more then the total annual income of this entire slum, if not this entire island.

And you want to loot?

Well you grab a wooden plate, a small tin box filled with low value coins and several articles of rancid laundry!

You then pull a 180 and head back up towards he vet teams.

Pick up Draco and the gunnerbot and drop them off at Sir Jackson's position, if possible.  Tell the gunnerbot to follow him.  Also give him my backpack if I can.

Listen to Rabble Radio.  Anything enlightening, or mostly just unintelligble panicking?

Think about the announcement I made.  What was problematic about it that caused some of the crowd to turn on us?

Well he's already getting together with his friends on his own so we'll skip that.

You head back and get into position just as the first people start showing up.

Rabble radio is essentially a giant mess of people either calling out for loved ones that got lost in the mess, people blaming ARM, the UWM, God, fate, and several ethnic groups for their current situation, and of course a fair deal of swearing, sexual comments and calls for mass committing of various crimes.

It wasn't the whole crowd that turned on you, and inevitably some people are always gonna fight back. The problem was less what you said and more how you said it.

Waiting part 5 is a go. Continue watching fires.
Part 6 might have to be put on hold. We got civies incoming.

((It's dangerous down there!  But I will dip low to let you guys out.))
Listen to Sir Jackson's instructions and then relay them to the gunnerbot.  If there is no aux roll for instructing the gunnerbot, then ignore this action.

Pay attention to those calls for mass crimes.  Does it sound like a militia is forming?  Are arms or explosives being mentioned?  Would it be possible to pinpoint the sources of those calls by using two shuttles' radio systems for triangulation?

Decrease altitude slightly to permit those that wish to leave to leave the shuttle.  Resume normal altitude once they have left.

Move in short circuits above the portal, keeping a close eye on the civilians entering the area.  If I can, scan the ones coming up the path with x-ray to see if they are armed.

You head over to where Chris is currently, seeing as Avalanche 4's head is no longer an issue.

Get on the ground, morph pimpcane into a spiked shield.
Move in a groundward direction using the ropes.
To the ground you go. Zor, you morph your cane into a wonderful spiky shield. It is both very protective and extremely sharp. Make sure to point the sharp bits at not you.

The mass crime call is less a call to group action and more of a "Oh, order is collapsing. Lets go loot!" sort of deal. Nothing about organized resistance.

From your circling position you can see a much larger group of people is treking up the ridge now, making their way towards the rear side and the path to the portal. The path keeps them coming in relatively small numbers, single file or maybe two by two. You notice that there are people running from the city towards the refugees, and that there are already robberies starting, with people preying on refugees waiting to get on the path.

climb carefully down the rope using the exoskeleton, drop onto ground near bunker when near ground.
Done.

Broadcast the following:  "do not shove.  do not push.  those that wish to leave the line should continue proceeding to the top of the ridge.  you will be able to leave once our officers create an exit path from the top of the ridge.  you will not be searched if you choose to leave the line.  attempting to force your way back from within the narrow line will only continue to send you and your fellow refugees plunging to your deaths."

Close the shuttle doors.  Attempt to catch on top of the shuttle the people falling off the path (more or less directly after they begin falling, one or two at a time) and carefully deposit them on the ground near the beginning of the line to the portal.

Scan through all radio frequencies, including encoded and restricted frequencies, to check for any organized resistance at all.

Inscribe gus? The name? You realize that scratching someone's name into the side of a robot is gonna take a few minutes right? Do you even have anything to do it with? I guess you do have some "Random tools" on you. Lets give it a handiwork roll. [6]

Well, the good news is that you inscribe Gus in that gunner bot like a goddamn artist. Not just his name but his name in illuminated script, all giant and fancy and curly and shit. You even scratch a dignified portrait under the name, complete with Gus smoking a pipe and quoting a line from Plato's Symposium. Unfortunately the line you chose for him to quote is,

"If only there were a way to start a city or an army made up of lovers and the boys they love."

Really it's the sort of thing you'd normally attribute to Faith, but I guess it works.

The downside to all this is that you spend your entire turn doing it.

((Hmm.  That's not exactly what I thought you meant by "investigate the robberies," but as long as it provides some semblance of order, that works.  Perhaps just try to prevent further robberies?  Up to you.))

Scan through all radio frequencies, including encoded and restricted frequencies, to check for any organized resistance at all.

You broadcast your message but it seems to mostly fall on deaf ears. The panic of a demon appearing from the portal combined with other soldiers shooting into the crowd and the general mayhem of the moment is overwhelming any rational thoughts these people might otherwise be having. You really can't do much more than bring your shuttle in and use it as a physical barrier to prevent people from falling. [aux 1]

You do your best but it's really quite hard to use a shuttle as a scoop to catch falling people. Most of the ones you actually manage to get under just roll off the smooth metal of the shuttle and end up falling anyways. In all you manage to save maybe half a dozen, dumping them back onto the path afterwards.

Stand around and look menacing. Break up any fights the peasants engage in. Bash any that are still violent after being removed from a fight. Bash any non-HMRC/ARM robbers.
Now, honest question, does this mean you want to physically wade into the mosh pit of refugees and just start cracking heads? Because I can do that, but I want to make sure before I have you do so and immediately get shanked a dozen times.

Gunnerbot: belay that order.  Do not fire into the crowd. ((sorry spazyak, it just seems like overkill.  We have non-lethal equipment for crowd control, and your character is quite skilled with that equipment.))

"strap yourselves in, boys!"

Open one shuttle door.  Attempt to rescue Kate by scooping her into the shuttle and leaving before she is shot.  Don't do this if there is a significant possibility of damage to the shuttle or danger to Christopher or others.

OR If it's too late or too dangerous to save her (or Auron's id saves her):

Fly low in the shuttle and corral the fleeing refugees back towards the path to the portal.  It probably won't help, but broadcast loudly and repeatedly: "Return to the path!"

Walk along the line, a few paces to the side, being observant. If any refugee (or really, any non-teammate) is being a danger to the others, like, not pickpockets, but attempted mugging, rioting, that sort of thing, they get a strike:
Strike 1: Slap them upside the head with pimpcane.
Strike 2: Yank them out of the line by the neck, and shove them towards the back of the line.
Strike 3: If I'm generous, strike 2 with a bit more beating. Otherwise:
HHHHOOOOOOME RRRRRUN: Make an example of them. Have fun.

Since I am a bit cautious, always keep a bit of distance from the refugees.

((Ok that's not going to work now that I've read about all the madness going on...))
Watch unfolding madness from a bit of a distance. Begin murmuring prayers to the unnamed god of the violent mind (speaking of, can it get a name?), as meditation, to focus my mind. Feed the bags of organic sludge that I brought with me to the sharksuit, try to give the actions a bit of ..significance? I'm feeling oddly meditative, zen, like I'm opening my mind and finding peace. Maybe this is what religious rituals are supposed to be like. Grab up some grass, branches, from around me, and feed them to the suit too.

The thieves, as well as the civies, have all turned tail. You could maybe pick them out still, if it was obvious but they're not much more than a mass of angry flesh down there.

Gunnerbot: belay that order.  Do not fire into the crowd. ((sorry spazyak, it just seems like overkill.  We have non-lethal equipment for crowd control, and your character is quite skilled with that equipment.))

OR If it's too late or too dangerous to save her (or Auron's id saves her):

Open one shuttle door.  Temporarily disable the turret and broadcast systems.  Gently scoop up some of the fleeing refugees into the shuttle through the door and deposit them next to the portal (but dip low so they aren't ejected to their deaths).  Do this quickly so that they don't have much time to lash out within the shuttle.  When they are delivered, presumably the sods will search them and (forcibly if necessary) escort them once they are unarmed into the portal.

You lift off and fly all the way into town. You land near Avalanche team's shuttle, hop out and walk over to kate. You quickly scoop her up, dump her back in your shuttle and then fly away.

You then start doing kidnapping runs. We'll assume anyone in the shuttle is helping with this, but you just start stealing people out of the mob and depositing them near the portal for sods to forcibly shove in.  Not terribly efficient, but I suppose it is technically effective.

Walk along the line, a few paces to the side, being observant. If any refugee (or really, any non-teammate) is being a danger to the others, like, not pickpockets, but attempted mugging, rioting, that sort of thing, they get a strike:

You completely ignore everything thats going on around you, including your team and shuttle kidnapping civilians and hurling them, screaming, through the portal. You instead spend several minutes carefully feeding goo and plants to your pants. You try to do this with as much reverence as possible, but it's a bit hard to jam a handful of grass into your crotch with any degree of religious seriousness.

Pick up Root.  While I'm over near Vanessa, drop off Kate next to the "demon" for treatment in its care.

If AND ONLY IF it'll be more efficient and won't result in lots of trampling deaths:
Try to instead corral the refugees towards the path by flying the shuttle low, using the loudspeakers at times to compel wayward cattle refugees back towards the portal.  To be clear, don't hurt any refugees or take any actions that are likely to result in their deaths.

However, if the above action would be dangerous and likely to result in deaths or would simply be ineffective, instead do the following action:
Continue kidnapping runs, but don't hurt anyone.  Hum nervously and very loudly to drown out the screams and don't think about it too hard.

Prevent civilian deaths however best I can.

Pick up the civilians that Sir Jackson renders unconscious or stunned and return them to the portal.  Bring tempdead or injured civilians to Vanessa for treatment.

Lastly, can we just keep doing mass kidnappings (more than one civilian at a time) and get a timeskip until all or 80%+ civilians have been evacuated?  I know they've begun dispersing, but they can't get too far due to the damage to the slums.  If we can't get a timeskip for mass kidnappings, can we please get a timeskip for herding?

Ok, I've got enzymes to memorize so lets get this done and stop fucking about.

If you had something this turn like "Return to shuttle" or "Grab my stuff and be ready to leave" it auto completes. No rolls, just done. If you had some other action, and it is OF VITAL IMPORTANCE(!) then pm me and we'll do it like that. Otherwise post pone them/cancel them. Priority goes to us not standing around drowning on our own insipid saliva.

So we're heading over to the next island. This one is a bit different. It's more well to do, sort of a middle class deal thanks to a fairly good trade system they have going. And they have a pretty big plantation of Hibus Bananas, which gets them a pretty penny. These guys are gonna be harder to dislodge because unlike the slums, these people actually have an established life and income and home and other such things that people are annoyingly clingy to. The island itself is an old volcanic island; something like Hawaii or the Japanese islands. Here, let me create a map

Now I'll leave it to you how you wanna handle this, but I can tell you that there ain't any major roads that lead into the jungle or to the volcano. There's one running through the plantation and around to the fishing village but isn't very direct. The volcano is quite high  and has a good vantage point but there's also no good way up for your average civie. And if you just bomb them then the populace is probably gonna run for the jungle and hide or maybe try to steal a boat at the port and make for open ocean. If you're gonna just kidnap them, I'd recommend waiting till nightfall and staging a raid. Get them at 3am and you'll have a good head start on mass reactions since the majority of people will be asleep, even if there is a lot of screaming happening a few blocks away.

fly up high near the mansion and look for armed individuals and the general lay out of the mansion ,

if any armed people fire at me react with goop grenades and stun bombs set to knock out (I think that's  30%) while broadcasting to the general area this message: "We are the ARMy, we are here to save your lives and with your help save the human race from the coming darkness, either lay down your weapons or we'll personally make you do so."

Listen in on civilian radio frequencies.  Do the inhabitants seem to know what happened on Semilunar Island?

How hard would it be to (what would one need to do to) shut down all media and civilian communication on the island (radio, TV, internet, cellular, etc.)?  How about selectively shutting down communication on portions of the island?

How hard would it be to sever portions of the island from the power grid?

If vet teams have not yet deployed the portal: capture the video feed from Sir Jackson's suit, digitally zoom in using my datapad, use an existing (or write a new) program on the datapad to make the resulting video as clear and unpixelated as possible, and then get ready to send that video to him if it's successful.  The idea is to make a digital binoculars program on the datapad that he can use.

Wait and watch.
You stand perfectly still and do not blink. It frightens everyone around you and they ask you to stop doing it.

Use shuttle feeds to stitch together a map of the area around the mansion. Take note of guards, civilians, vantage points, and choke points.
You do this the best you can. It's not a great map, but its better than nothing. There are definitely guards around, you can see them patrolling the area in fairly obvious red uniforms. Can't tell what they're toting as weapons, but they look like rifles of some kind. The entire plantation area is fenced in with what looks like a fairly tall fence topped with razor wire. There are guards patrolling the perimeter as well as the area around the mansion. The road that runs through the plantation is fenced in on either side.

In terms of vantage points, there are guard towers interspersed along the fence but no natural high areas in the plantation itself. In terms of choke points there aren't really any of those either. Place is a big open field thats been packed full of trees. There's no real natural bottle neck anywhere.

Listen in on civilian radio frequencies.  Do the inhabitants seem to know what happened on Semilunar Island?

They don't seem to know whats happening yet. There's reports from sources not on the island itself about fires being seen, but nothing specific.

You could shut down major ones by destroying the transmitters and receivers, but you'd have to completely knock out power to get rid of all of them. Or almost all, someone might still have a battery powered radio.

You'd need to find the power station and sever the lines. Depends on when you do it for difficulty. Then again, you do have an invisible teammate in the form of lyra who could do it in broad daylight and not be noticed.

set up a parimeter around the edge of the plantation and mansion. Have gus and draco on either side using disabling shots to stop people from fleeing the area. Land on top of the mansion. Instruct people to lay down their weapons out in front of the mansion and in the middle of the plantation.

Attempt to cut off the transmission of death metal. ((No offense, Zormod.  I'm just not sure that the universe is ready for death metal diplomacy.))

Pick up Lyra, drop her off in the jungle at the edge of the mansion (but far enough away from the mansion to avoid detection) near any obvious power lines.  Fly low and silently in an attempt to avoid detection.

Then, quickly fly over the mansion, turn off the speakers inside the shuttle or play music in the passenger compartment so we're not affected, and broadcast the following in the numbered order such that the entire plantation can hear:
1.  "we have come in peace.  we are not here to hurt you, but we will respond with non-lethal force if fired upon."
2.  Are they shooting us or about to shoot us?  If so: Empiricist's character's (+4 Charisma) "Don't you fucking dare carry weapons or attack us" message.
3.  Are we now shooting people?  If so: Empiricist's character's "Please disregard our violence" message.
4.  Now, any rioting or running?  If so: Empiricist's character's "Stop rioting and feel bad about yourselves" message.
5.  "great danger approaches this planet.  please remain calm.  we are here to evacuate you to safety."
6.  Lastly: "please congregate near the mansion for evacuation.  it is imperative that you not leave the area.  any questions you may have will be addressed, in-depth, via dialogue in the mansion area.  please present your leader for negotiation and follow the instructions of our evacuation task force."

If there's any shooting or running away after that, use the appropriate Empiricist speech.

Seems people aren't ready. Also, kind of hard to set up a perimeter with 6 people when the area you're covering is so big.  We'll assume that for now, you covertly land on top of the mansion and wait for the raid to start in earnest.

((In progress post This is final.   If anyone wants something changed, please let me know.  We're all going to die I'm sure everything will go fine.))

Positioning

1.  Covertly drop off Gus and Draco on the road leading to the plantation.  Their orders are to halt any traffic to or from the plantation, using non-lethal force as necessary.  They should broadcast this message to any that approach or attempt to pass: "the plantation is currently inaccessible due to evacuation efforts.  please turn around.  do not attempt to proceed."

2.  Drop off Aphra and Leonardo in the jungle near the northeastern portion of the plantation with a clear view of the fields, but still fairly close to the mansion.  They should be able to cut through the fence to get into the fields when we're ready to start, or alternatively pick off combatants from behind the cover of the jungle.

3.  Swing into position above the mansion.  Kate is manning the turret.  Oidipous can fire, if necessary, from aboard the shuttle.  Drop off Root and Zekthal within the mansion (onto a balcony, or if there is an entrance to within the mansion on the roof, drop them off on the roof).

Broadcast

Turn off the speakers inside the shuttle or play music in the passenger compartment so we're not affected, and broadcast the following in the numbered order such that the entire plantation can hear:

1.  "we have come in peace.  we are not here to hurt you, but we will be forced to respond if fired upon."
2.  Are they shooting us or about to shoot us?  If so: Empiricist's character's (+4 Charisma) "Don't you fucking dare carry weapons or attack us" message.

Combat

If there's any shooting or running away after that, use the appropriate Empiricist speech.  If the speeches are ineffective and we're still facing resistance, fly evasively in a circuit around and above nearby guard towers to help those on the shuttle take those out.  Then, fly evasively near all remaining hostiles so they can be taken out while broadcasting "throw down your weapons and surrender!".

If it looks like the fire is more than we can handle... hover behind the mansion for now.

Ok, everyone is in position.

Lyra cuts the power, and message 1 is broadcast.

They haven't started shooting YET, but they are pointing their weapons at the shuttle, looking around or hurriedly moving toward the mansion. This seems to be more of a moment of confusion than surrender.

Jump of the mansion and land infront of it, shield at the ready.
If people attack use stun baton to vigorously swat them away, back up these swats with a goop grenade or two.
Stop all people, except ARMy members, from entering.
Tell them the following if they do not attack or start shooting:

Calm down people and form an orderly line. None of us here want a fight nor do we wish to kill you, doing so would be quite contrary to our goals...
Oh, and I am willing to take at most two squires to help me, they will be provided better housing, food, and weaponry then the normal civilian.
I do not expect you to fight if you join me, I ask for people good with technology and the little blinky screen things, I think they're called computers.
Oh, and you will be granted membership into the CSU
if they ask questions, answer them, explain what the CSU is in as detailed of a way while avoiding the words Flesh horror, vanessa, and psychopathic idiots

When they present their representative or leader, bow to him/her and shake his/her hand and introduce myself as the representative of the ARM.

Now, I do hope you are alright if my adopted daughter watches our talks, she insisted quite deliberately on seeing these talks. Please, don't worry about her safety, she will be quite fine. I've taken her protection into account and have a personal and able friend as her guard.
His voice drops to one of sadness
Besides, she experienced much worse on her home planet anyways.

2.  How far away is the secondary portal from the mansion?  Is the distance easily walkable?

But enough of the ramblings of an old man...You are?
You drop straight down in front of the mansion.  The guards immediately start shooting. Your shield blocks most of the shots from directly in front of you, but there are also guards around back, in the mansion, and to the left and right. Your industrial exosuit blocks the majority of shots, but your wings get shredded since the suit doesn't cover them.  I mean, they get practically shot off and you are bleeding  a good deal.  Even so, you manage to take down a few guards with stun baton blows to the head.  At least until someone fires an armor piercing round from the upper window of the mansion. It doesn't get through the suit, not quite, but it drops you to your knees and knocks the wind out of you.

Questions

Around the mansion there is a fairly wide space that doesn't have trees. She is at the edge of this space. Maybe a few hundred feet away.

Its a bit of a hike, but yes, it's walkable.

You broadcast the message and your message but they seem not to be listening, what with filling your teammate full of lead.

Might as well help these people pack up. Assist the nonviolent civilians in any way I can without giving out my equipment.
So do nothing right now because the bird man dropping down into the middle of this kinda spooked them and once the shooting starts it's hard to talk them down.

Be aware of my surroundings, keep an eye on the people, and if any nearby guards start shooting, float some of my cane over to them and pull their guns down to the ground so nearer people can defuse the situation.
[2]
You float some cane matter down and manage to slap the guns out of a few people's hands. But most of them just pick the guns back up a few seconds later. One just legs it into the forest though. Guess he's had enough of winged men and floating metal.

Remember that I haven't feed my neopets in years. Be melancholic.
You could still go do that. Place still exists. And neopets don't die of hunger, they just get sad.

What a horrible existence.

Flying in from the secondary portal fortifications, where avalanche team is. i.e. transferring from avalanche team.

Reminder: Exaggerated Movement Mode is on.

If Christopher sees anyone in a guard tower as he flies over the fence, he'll fly in a jagged spiral towards it, throw the glaive/twitchblade at it when reasonably close (i.e. using dex), then go in with the club, attempting to take out the person shooting at him first. He will then loot everything of probable use.

If Christopher does not see an inhabited guard tower, he will fly straight to the mansion-area, grab Sir Jackson, fly him out of the danger zone, perform medicine if immediately necessary, then fly him over to Vanessa, who should be near the crystal monsters where avalanche was.

1.  As a reminder, Gus and Draco should both be positioned by the only possible exit from the plantation area.  I'm assuming that people otherwise cannot escape from the area due to the barbed-wire fencing.  Is that correct?
2.  Their orders stand.  They are to non-lethally subdue escaping civilians after warning them not to proceed.  Allow/order them to advance closer to the mansion, to subdue escaping civilians in that area as well in case we made a mistake and the mansion isn't fenced in.
3.  Also, get video footage from Gus so I can be alerted when runners are subdued.
4.  I'm assuming #2 is going to be a problem because they aren't sapient creatures.  If so, perhaps an inactive team member could monitor the video feed and manually order Gus and Draco to fire via audio on a case-by-case basis?

Shuttle

1.  Land on the roof.  Broadcast the "don't you dare attack us" Heph message followed by "do not leave the area."
2.  If civilians are escaping into the jungle and Aphra has a shot, ask her to stop them from doing so.  Non-lethally.  Leonardo too, if possible.
3.  Ask Steve to give Kate some debilitating shocks if the messages succeed in calming down the civilians and she is still about to fire.
4.  Get out of the shuttle and put it on auto-pilot, default to evasive action.  Kate is in command of the shuttle auto-pilot.

Ground

Move with Root and Zek'thal, providing suppressive fire (when we encounter resistance) to help them systematically advance through the mansion hallways and rooms.  Assist in finding the plantation leader and bringing him to the rooftops.  Anyone suitably important looking should suffice.  Use alternate vision modes to determine where hostiles and potential leader is.

Generally use non-lethal force when possible.  If laser fire cauterizes, remove a hand or two from aggressive hostiles, for example.  Large groups of clearly aggressive enemies get electronades, as long as our suits are insulated against electricity.

If/when I run out of ammo, pick up an enemy weapon, install it in the hardpoint, and use that instead.  If I can (safely) acquire and install another weapon before I run out of ammo, do so early on for better suppression.

save my mighty and holy rage against technology and computers till later.
Order Draco and Gus to shoot the runner in the legs over the radio! We have the exits covered by them right, RIGHT? Oh god I hope we do!
Grab biggest chunk of wings I can and use jump jet to retreat back to the top of the mansion, broad cast message to the People:

Alright jeeze, You guys don't wanna talk or be rescued? Fine. Stop shooting at least, we'll go if you want..All I wanted to do was talk. Why can't anyone talk! [Insert old time-y exasperated grumbling here]
if they stop shooting demand they bring out a representative for me to speak to.
If they don't Chuck some goop grenades and electro grenades, save one,  into them then cut way down into building with sword. Finish this action off by chucking goop grenade down in hole

They don't stop shooting, so you start chucking.
You do a fairly good job of it; you get the majority of the guards around the mansion either trapped in goo or electrocuted into unconsciousness. That done, you cut open the roof and huck the goo grenade into a completely unoccupied parlor, ruining the decor.

Woo boy, getting light headed here.

There are several towers around the perimeter of the plantation, flimsy wood and tin things clearly not designed for a firefight. You drop straight down through their roofs and take the occupants out with a few good club swings before looking their rifles and ammo and moving on. By the time you finish you look like some sort of comical rambo parody with 12 assault rifles hanging from your shoulders.

1. Yes, unless they're VERY determined.
2.OK
3. Haven't gotten any yet. That runner may have just gone and hidden instead of trying to escape. Place is big and dense with trees, wouldn't be hard to vanish for a while.
4. They know enough not to murder.

1. Done. Broadcasted but seemingly ignored.
2. Ok
3. OK
4. Alright.

You hop down into the mansion through the hole in the roof and start moving through it one room at a time. Most are empty. Not until you hit a main hall do you find a few guards, who immediately open fire. You eliminate them and continue moving, following the guards towards what you assume is the leader of this place. You eventually find a very important looking room. The remaining guards in the building have all gathered here, outside the large, double wooden doors and created barricades with furniture. They look dug in, and you're not sure if you have the ammo to deal with all of them.

Shoot around the soldiers shooting at our guys, but try not to hit them in anything vital or anything that would remove them from the genepool.
You shoot down at the men around the mansion, aiming for the toes. You think you might have gotten one, but their suppressive fire is so intense you can't really say.

Follow people who need help, do what they say within reason, and keep an eye out and radio in if anything fishy is noticed by me.

Are there slaves on this plantation, or this planet for that m matter?
For the moment you're on the roof helping kate.

Slaves? Not sure. You haven't seen any. Or anyone who is obviously a slave.

You invisibly slink past the gunfight and track the man in the woods. He's easy enough to follow, sweating like he is. You find him hiding behind a tree near the plantation fence and quickly subdue him with a bite.

Well, thats gonna take the whole turn and then some.

See you in the turn after next.

Shoot at the aggressive soldiers. Try to maim, but preferably not kill.
Note: stopping them is a priority, not keeping them alive.

You shoot and incapacitate several. You're pretty sure you only definitely kill one of them. You can tell because of his lack of head. You get some, but not all.

Hide the jet ship in the house, preferably someplace that has shooting coming from it.
Jet...ship?

Try to set my incinerator bot to burn down the door.
You set your robot out but it gets shot several times and ceases to function.

Huh.

1.  Ask Steve what the exact correct course of action is, then execute.
2.  If that won't work, use mind to determine correct course of action.  Then execute.
3.  If that won't work, then just throw a bunch of grenades at it.

4.  Regardless of the success or failure of any of these actions, destroy self with laser.

You mentally hum the tune to MASH while flying him back to the mansion. Fuck it taking two turns, I'm too slow for that.

((might start having Jackson talk in a Shakespearean fashion for shits and giggles))
Fuck taking two turns, you're back on the roof and fixed up now.

Toss a goop grenade in their direction from cover.
You toss the grenade but it's a little too short and ends up landing and expanding a few feet from them, effectively sealing the hall but not trapping any of the men.

I dunno if this is gonna get a reply but steve would probably just say the best case of action is to use heavy fire power to kill these people and then leave. Saving one rich guy doesn't really mean a lot to him.

Uh, whatever this ship is.
Is rockets. Can't have space without rockets.

You land on the roof of the building, which is about the best hiding this thing can do.

Request guns from njw, if he gives them to me wire them up to my suit so they fire when I fire my laser rifle sword.

Tell the men to stand down and I won't u leash my holy rath on them

If they don't stand down and I have time left in my turn then do the following

Hold sheild up and prepare my sword. Aim at the barricade while firing jump jets to launch me forwards into their barricade, open fire on the people. Hold wings out slightly to slow self down right before impact. Use sheild and the extremely tough wire frame leg to absorb the force of the impact. Then shoot and loot and straggelers

Offload four or so rifles onto Sir Jackson, before... going into the building via the most sensible aperture, shooting at anyone shooting at me, and telling any noncombatants about how the world will end soon and they need to step into the portal thingies we have.

I understand that you are familiar with the use of Amps, and that you have used a synthflesh body in the past. We have located a universe which is quite promising for posible settlement. Preliminary tests suggest that Origin technology works well there, with no sign of Lurker infection. I am looking for volunteers to travel to that universe and do some more direct testing of a wider variety of Origin technologies. If you are interested, please come immediately to Hephaestus to be fitted with amps of your choice and a sythflesh body. However, be aware that this mission may be cancelled before you are able to depart, as circumstances are currently unfavorable, and we may need to direct those resources elsewhere for the immediate future.

You hand the weapons to Jackson before entering the house to do some light recreational looting. They seem to have this place cleared of both hostiles and friendlies so you head to the kitchen and start grabbing anything that looks nice. The kitchen is well stocked, so you make a few trips before heading down to the wine cellar and grabbing a few nice looking bottles to celebrate with after the mission is over.

If I fail to summon forth more furry furbakls of stasis dementia goodness then go and wire in the guns I have onto wrists and shoulders. Shoulder mounted ones will be swivel mounted aiming where I look like Draco's turret.
Wrist ones fire when Multiweapon MKII is fired,
weapons can be disabled via voice commands such as left wrist disable or riht shoulder disable.
Try to find some way to wire up a system to display a hud inside of helmet that shows moving objects with a number and letter next to them, like 1A or 2b, USE That to pick out targets for shoulder guns.

Then pop into the portal to orgy-verse exploration team. (As agreed on the m27 radio), with Draco in tow of course.

>All teams, regroup. Head to the following coordinates. We're leaving; our work here is done and there's  more pressing matters. Our search for a new home is introducing new threats and weakening the barriers of this universe much more quickly than we had anticipated. We need you in other places.

okay, Well I guess until we're off to the next area I'm going to go around grabbing fine china, electronics, paintings, fabrics, maybe a back pack or two, a cask of wine, and any and all weapons or knives in sight.
Try and take some piping, a grill-charcoal preferably, a propane tank, and an air pump....I will have need for these in the future.
Also anything that looks cool. If anything is nailed down cut out what ever it is nailed to
Then walk away from the mansion when all the loot is out of it, the mansion burning behind him. Somehow jackson has a pair of sun glasses taped to the front of his helmet...
Then i'll be done. Nothing I can do till I'm back on the ship talking to the doctor
