Draw things as you picture them
« on: July 13, 2014, 01:26:22 am »

I just got to thinking about what a goblin would look like if he were extremely fit, and then I whipped up a drawing in paint. Thought I'd start a thread to see who wants to throw in some drawings of things as you all picture them.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Appropriately named "jackedgoblin.jpeg"

Also just occurred to me that this thread better fits into general discussion, doesn't have anything to do with fortress mode in particular. Oh well.

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

I was pretty infamous in other subforums for my MSPaint skills.

I have a few forgotten beasts and the like I did in MSpaint.

Those aren't bad at all, you should give something besides MSPaint a try and see what happens.

Meh, it's not really important.

I dont really have much free time anymore to make such doodles with my new job. Previously, I could pillage time from the employer to participate in such threads, nowdays though, my me-time is so preciously scarce, that I dont dare waste it on idle doodles.

I am quite good at pixel art with MSPaint though. It's its own unique little process, and while I do like photoshop and the like, what I can do in MSPaint with just a mouse and some inspiration is quite nice as well.  Other suites dont let me manipulate individual pixels the way that MSPaint does. You CAN produce a custom palette in MSPaint, and I actually have several I have cooked up for that very function.

But I want to see other people's stuff. Show me what you got!

Hey man, that stuff is pretty good. I've never been particularly good at drawing whether with a pen/pencil or a mouse, and now my hands are usually so shaky that I just can't, but I always wanted to be good at it. I never practiced, guess that makes it my fault lol

I have a few.  This first is from an old thread here, a comic featuring noob tips.  this was my contribution:

This was a silly picture of an egraving of my mayor surrounded my dwarves:

And finally, a skeletal yak tearing on of my people in half within five minutes of embarking:

I'm nowhere near as talented as weird, but I like how my yak turned out.

If you like pixel with customizable palettes you should Aseprite. It's free too. The only problem I have is shading with it. Other than it's pretty good.
