Walk around the tribe, encouraging them to keep from drinking until we are all safe and established.
((Are you trying to kill us?))

Elto was deeply ashamed at his failure to protect the child, as he had failed to protect his own children so many years ago. Furthermore, he was forced to watch as one of his oldest friends, and the most industrious person of the tribe, became intoxicated and idle.

He sighed. Nothing could change what had already happened, and he had to focus on the problem at hand. At least Clangbuck had survived...

"Our choice is simple. We have come upon a bounteous forest. At the very least it should allow us to supply well for the further journey, and if we cannot reach the new land, it may sustain our people for a few years."

SPAWN AS A MANEATER BIRD!

Humans only, sorry.

:( Aww, but then we could have an arc about them trying to domesticate me and I could be all "SQUACK BWACK!"

It would only be worth it if you were large enough for me to ride into battle. :P

When he described the birds, all I could think of was Ostriches. So you probably could.

((:P))

Conrak slaps his forehead in mock astonishment. "Clangbuck, you've just survived a trying ordeal dragging a heavy sledge weighed down with dead earth and dead plants through inhospitable badlands for days on end, and you've just now reunited with the rest of the tribe! This calls for a celebration! And we've gotten very good at celebrating while you were out."

well actually if i understand correctly we should catch up before the alcohol shows up

Ask Lanku if she wants to join Chantututu in playing some practical jokes.  If she accepts, replace the locations of the water and alcohol stores that non-hunters have access to and observe the aftereffects together.  Bond!

((Yes, my guy has a very short expected lifespan.  Who will kill him first?  Hard to say.))

WEEP FOR MY LOST LOVE!

WHATEVER HER NAME WAS

THEN GO GET SOME WATER... SURELY I KNOW ALL THE NEARBY SOURCES OF FRESH WATER
WHAT DO I KNOW ABOUT THE LANDS TO THE EAST?

[2] After weeping for a moment, you realize that you have forgotten more about this area than you previously thought. You have few to no ideas on where to find water.

[4] Well, aside from the river several hours away to the east. Past that there are badlands as far as you know - the tribe went that way, but what happened to them, you have no idea.

Upon arriving shove Haphan to the ground with the shaft of my spear.

I went ahead with Haphan, and what did we find? NOTHING! Haphan brought us out here to perish!

[3] You attempt to shove Haphan to the ground to teach him a lesson, but he proves a little too steadfast, and while you manage to shove him, the full effect is not achieved. Not that it matters, of course.

wish the search party luck and go catch up with the rest of the tribe after time dilation is worked out properly study alcohols physical propertys

[6] After catching up with the tribe, you devote the next few days to the in-depth study of alcohol in collaboration with Conrak, who welcomes your company. You find out that it smells good, tastes better and improves your outlook on life, and tends to be liquid and fruity.

And then you find out that it gives you headaches and great discomfort afterward, for which, according to Conrak, more alcohol is a wonderful cure, which is an idea you easily confirm.

I have yet a moment to contemplate. Nothing seemed wrong before crossing badlands, but, after crossing them and coming closer to a desert, did we take a wrong turn? The river indeed, could have remained on the side of us, as such.

"Stop the tribe, Hatika, while we're not gone far from the forest. And give me juat one day to think about situation. I know what I seen with my own eyes and tasted with my own lips, but somehow, something has gone wrong. And I'm responsible for that."

[1] Though you may have gone wrong somewhere, you have no idea where, or even if such a thing has happened - you are wondering if perhaps the mistake was not in your initial perceptions rather than your guidance - the land which you thought fertile and plentiful may have become otherwise with the change of the seasons. Perhaps animals were merely migrating through it at the time, and do not actually live here?

Ask if they have food or drink, and if they had seen Plok, Irk, and Vukko. Have someone escort them to the tribe while I continue my search. No one gets left behind

[2] They have enough food and drink for their own needs, but no more, and they have not seen the men you are looking for. Disappointed, you give them an escort to lead them back, and move on.

[2] The badlands, though, make for a long and very unrewarding trek, and without Haphan's guidance travel is much more difficult, as you have only the sun and stars to guide your way, neither of which you are very good at reading.

Suggest that Conrak stop drinking and help me upgrade the sleds. Also, check on my experiment ((which I have been keeping watered to maintain the clash of spirits.))

Conrak makes a sensible countersuggestion which you dismiss, and so you choose to check on your experiment.

[5] You find that each and every pot has maintained the clash of spirits admirably, and in each several small plants have fled from the earth toward the sky.

Have the tribe gather resources here while we wait for another scouting report.

[1] There is no scouting report (the only available information being that the plains go on for a distance yet, Haphan does not know what to do, and you lost sight of the woods over a week ago. The plains are proving more inhospitable than the badlands, in a way. At least there the hunters knew what to trap, even if it was only birds, and the locations of water sources.

Countersuggest that Clangbunk join me in drinking and forget the sleds/plant corpses for a while! "Clangbunk, you've gotta try this one, the one made from the yellow fruit..."

Clangbunk refuses, instead choosing to focus on his silly spirit experiments. But at least Tuypogina keeps you in good company.

Let us go south.

[2] You send your war party south, only to have them return weeks later, saying that there are no signs of any other tribes. It appears your conquest of those lands, first done more than twenty years previously, is still going unchallenged.

Walk around the tribe, encouraging them to keep from drinking until we are all safe and established.

[3] Though some listen to your counsel, the inactivity while a decision is reached is not conducive to the state of sobriety you wish for the tribe to reach - Conrak in particular seems to have taken to alcohol like a habit.

((I am now Tuktu, foremost greatest warrior and babysitter  :P))

Continue protecting tribe from threats, if any.

[1] The current threat appears to be the increasingly dubious competence of Haphan, and you wonder if he has not outlived his usefulness. While you ponder how best to kill the scout, yet another child is stolen away in the night, tarnishing your reputation similarly to Elto's.

[6] Lanku finds it a brilliant idea, but the issue is, alcohol and water are extremely easy to tell apart from sight alone, one being fermented juice and the other being, well, water, and you agree that it would not be a very interesting practical joke. So you perform a more intriguing version - in the dead of night, the two of you simply hide all the water supplies you can get your hands on (that is to say, all except the hunters') in a location that is known only to the two of you. You are not caught, and in the morning the tribe is most surprised.
