Garnt's technically undead, and does not have a soul in theory..
ENG on the other hand is living, has a very messed up soul, and is a repeatedly shellshocked soldier.
He is also suffering from psychotic episodes as a result of the above.

The whole thing that separates Undead from Hollows is that Undead have souls, I think.
