Otherwise, we would just go to a fantasy setting with that sort of female armor that is inexplicably protective despite hardly covering anything, buy a lot of it through selling goods they don't have, and then combining numerous sets of those into armored ghillie suits.

That still has potential to ruin balance. What you're currently arguing for, is a means to create enchanted baubles with neither risk nor material items at all. Effectively, you're making baubles those for free. Baubles I should note may be traded for goods, services or currency.
