Eh, I'll think about it. Anyone interested? Interesting character concepts might help sway my mind :P.
YES

I'm thinking either a Skitarii or a tomb raider Indiana Jones 'Archaeologist'.

I'd be up for a D&D or Pathfinder game. I'm confident in my ability to not totally screw up making a character this time :P

I'll sign on as an astropath, assuming there's non-combat stuff to do. Had a ton of fun as one in a previous campaign, but it was short, mostly involving combat, and I barely got to use any of the fancy telepathy skills I spent literally thousands of XP developing. As a result, when the final boss suddenly showed up, it was a bit of a struggle. If I had known how the campaign would go, I would have built my character far differently.

Interesting. What class do you plan on going into for that?

I didn't say I am doing it yet :P. If I do end up doing it, I'd probably start you off in an undiscovered system either randomly generated or inspired by Stars of Inequity. I hope that would let me get a feel for the game, without having to dive *too* deeply into the lore and stuff. If it ended up working out, I would probably end up doing a longer campaign.

I'm thinking (for the Skitarii) either Arch-Militant or Explorator, or (for faux Archeaologist) either the Rogue Trader or Seneschal.

I figured that. Either way, I think its an interesting concept.

Basically, the way ship designing works in RT is you choose a hull then trick it out with a bunch of different features/guns. The problem is that, at the beginning, you only have certain amount of ship points to spend. Ship points can be traded for Profit Factor. Since unspent SP becomes PF anyway, I think I'll just let you guys as a group decide how you want to spend your 90 points. If it does end up happening, you guys get to design it as a group, so you would have to ask them :P. I'll have to do the random rolls (unless everyone is *really* set on a certain trait or something), and you have to follow the ship creation rules, but otherwise go nuts. I have all the books available to me, so you can use whatever ship parts and hulls you want.

We are still just talking about doing it, these aren't plans yet.

Don't know what you mean by free-choice rows in this context  :-\.

1e is the best edition of the 40k rpgs, in my opinion.

Just prior to Into the storm listing a whole slew of options for character creation it suggests that the GM designate one or more rows as free rows, alowing anyone to choose anything within them.

Anyways, if we do go and run a RT game, I'll probally try playing as a pilot of some flavor.

I have a false-man cloned gunner i could reuse from a dead game, or perhaps a mutant.

Or a mutant gunner.

@Stirk: During chargen you have to follow the Origin Path as peer the instructions, advancing from one row to another adjacent option in the next row (downwards or upwards depending on whether you began at homeworld or career).

The Career row is usually nominated the free choice row to allow for a wider range of concepts. For example, normally your Rogue Trader can only have Prestige (plus Exhilaration or Fear with the extra options from Into the Storm) as their motivation, missing out on choosing between other appropriate options depending on the character (Pride, Renown, Fortune...).

Rogue Trader is good for people who usually feel limited by the constraints of DH or OW. Even for loyalist crews, you're usually allowed more leeway to straddle the line of heresy, be it by flaunting xenotech, hoarding archeotech or being a mutant/illegal clone experiment.
