You are quite paranoid, considering I've never lead anyone astray before here :P I generally find the pirates more trustworthy than the developers; after all, EA lied about the DRM being removed. This game uses Securom to check the key online as well as that there is a disk in the drive. It phones home every time you launch the game.

Edit: found some proof of it's presence, in the form of a file called GL.ini (GL = Game License most likely?). It includes a few bits of info about the DRM, mostly a list of localizations of their error messages such as :

GL:5603="There seems to be a problem with the license server.  Please try again in a few minutes."
GL:5604="There seems to be a problem with establishing a connection to the internet.  Please shutdown other applications and try again or reboot your computer."
GL:5622="The license limit for this product has been reached. Please visit http://support.ea.com to contact EA Support for further assistance."

It's the same DRM as all their past crap, they're lying to customers to try and garner goodwill

wow... this is awesome... It's good to see that bay12 is getting the recognition it deserves.

I would definetly like the sims 3 to have the openess of DF.

Right because all those pirates spreading rumors are imaginary :P

The problem is a good many of them are either trolls or people willing to spread rumors to justify their actions.

That would be called False advertising. The GL.ini could very well be a peice of programming they never bothered to remove.

So if your telling the truth I suspect we will hear about a lawsuit soon.

Except within the GL.ini they specify the Sims 3, not some past piece of software. It specifically mentions:
[DRMLicense]
DRMSTUDIO=Sims
DRMPRODUCT=The Sims 3

Nevermind that such lawsuits will probably get choke to death and possibly shut down due to the fact that they never said it in an advertisement - it's not going to say 'NO DRM' on the TV commercials, magazine ads, or the box art  ::)

"due to the fact that they never said it in an advertisement"

So then it would be falsifying official records

Uhh, no, official records are sworn legally binding statements.The no-DRM bit was just casually mentioned in interviews, mostly on the internet. And that just won't hold up in court

Doesn't change anything I said. They could include a file that says "If your sims wear a bikini the game will explode"

Edit addition (beleive it or not I lost sleep on this... Even I usually know when I say something stupid): The thing here is that you need to prove that GL actively puts an install limit on your game rather then simply saying so through text.

Though it is unlikely it does anyhow because it would probably be a referal program so I'll personally investigate further to see if there secretly fit some DRM in there.

I can see this message in sims, "you have found a magma pipe". then you'd hear SHIIT as the sims fell in.

Out of curiosity to see who's speaking the truth, EA or RELOADED, i downloaded the game and tried to run it without a crack. With an internet lock engaged.

The result: i get an error that the game can't connect to the server and it closes down. It seems they can get away with the drm planned for mass effect as long as they claim it isn't there.

Ohh I should probably say this.

Not only is Maxis not making this game, but the people who are are the ones who made Everquest.

It's really too bad that The Sims 3 will have SecuROM on it. Otherwise I'd buy it.

Wonderful job, EA! Who needs customers anyway?

No the rumors/facts/whatever is that the game has DRM, not SecuRom

Presumably they make greater profits by including securom than they do by excluding it, otherwise they wouldn't do it.

Because EA is infallible?

(No opinion on Sims 3/DRM, just pointing out that '<X> does <Y>, therefore <Y> must be a net positive' is a logical fallacy)
