I think he meant the hut is on fire at the moment, rather than being a burned-out shell you can safely put your back to.

Yeah, I had assumed it was a burned out shell so instead of putting my back to it i'm trying to find the castle rather than try to rush into it where a potentially mad witch will try to kill me for not driving away the peasants.
