im not so sure in which the T2 restrictions are but alphas can use T2 modules for defense(all three of them, along with related stuff like nanofiber, bulkheads and the like), capacitor, cpu, mining, and combat upgrades such as tracking computers, heatsinks, DDA modules, etc...they can also use T2 rigs. but its out of their wallet i thing.

they just cant get onto T2 weaponry, propulsion, drones, EWAR(excludes capacitor warfare), cloak, and other specialized stuff. but some of this can be compensated by using Faction modules.

T2 weapons and weapon mods (tracking, +dps, etc) really make or break a build though.

Yeah, doesn't help that you can't use T2 ammo except through T2 weapons.

Have things like meta 4 and storyline weapons gone up in value since the change to F2P?

I can't cite price trends since I haven't played in a few months, but I'll point out that CCP has been phasing out meta levels on t1 gear, so for many weapon systems meta isn't really a consideration.

Don't make alphas worse than they are.
They can explore decently and they can be a really useful fleet asset, flying tackle or t1 ewar mostly.

I think Alphas do their job as a free aspect to the game quite well. You're missing out on stuff, but you can still play the game and do enough stuff to enjoy yourself and try it out.

If they were just as good as Omegas there wouldn't be any point to paying CCP at all.

It works pretty well, but my issue is that you can't really specialise in anything and that's the whole point of Eve in a lot of ways.

As an uncapped demo you could start moving towards a specialisation by the end of your time - that's the only thing that held my interest with it really, and as an alpha you're just given the most sort of...bland skills.

I haven't seen any stats on if it's actually been good for CCP? anyone heard anything?

With enough work and polish, it could have been a forgettable flash game on Kongregate.

I watch /r/eve and noticed mention of 2016 being WILDLY profitable for CCP, and the online user count hit like 60,000+ at some points.  I've also heard that 'the population levels are dropping and by summer we'll be pre-alpha level' but I suspect it'll level off notably above the pre-alpha level.

Personally I suspect one of the deeper reasons for the alpha clones was so they could stop people making trial alts for spamming multiboxing.  Like, it wasn't unusual to make 20+ alts to sit in systems and watch local.  And then after 21 days they'd make a whole new batch.  There's THOUSANDS, potentially millions of accounts that have only existed for 21 days.

Either way, the general attitude seems to be 'it was a good move, and after the initial spike in players it's still running pretty strong'.

I like it. My corp regularly recruits waves of newbies. Before the patch, they almost always disappeared after 2 weeks. Now, they still hang around!

This is untrue.  Trial accounts (much like alpha accounts) could not be multiboxed according to the EUL.  It wasn't possible to do so mechanically without having a separate PC/VM for each, and getting caught would get you a ban.

Edit: If anything, alpha accounts make alt dickery more viable though.  For one example, I have a corpmate who is gradually inserting an alpha character into every single wormhole in the game.  This will allow us to easily locate any specific wormhole (making hunting targets and planning evictions far easier), as well as provide him with a decent income stream through selling wormhole locations to third parties.

was outside of the game due to RL stuff, then i found out my corporation had moved to Delve, decided to put my ratting arbitrator on contracts and flew on my pvp frigate all the way there.

sacrificed 75 million to get a fitted Navy Augoror, since the rats are weak to EM/Thermal i've been able to both tank and deal much better DPS than what i was using. it should pay itself after a few forsaken hubs.

i think i'll stay here as long as i can, this should kickstart me onto the plex again without having to worry about dying. better if i can later invest into adding better modules or weapons. but for now it gets the job done.

Loaded EVE up recently to look at Project Discovery and... what the hell happened to Plex prices? It's now something like 1.5 billion isk to extend your omega time

It got a bit wonky after they merged aurum and plex into one thing and split plex up. Since it is now used for multiple things I think people are perhaps buying more of it.
