Emm, a quick google-fu didn't net me the information how to reskin Terraria :P. Any advices about tweaking the files (and does Steam allow it? Won't it auto-replace them?) would be nice.

You need a way to compile images into XNBs. :P I have this program the can export the game's images and then convert them into XNBs when you need to. Reskinning just requires you replace the files inside /Terraria/Content/Images

Do you have to disable steam Terraria autoupdate to evade a situation where Steam just checks and finds your files "wrong" and updates them?

I don't think so. I was able to update with my new sprites still in, but I forget if I reinstalled them before I played that time.

word from re-logic is modding and such will get support down the road, so unless you feel like updating your mod when that happens, i would recomend to wait. allthough i would really like to see what you would do with terraria!

Ring of regeneration and hermes boots were found
Digging tunnels has never been so much fun.

Now I only need to upgrade to gold tier so I can take on my first boss.

word from re-logic is modding and such will get support down the road, so unless you feel like updating your mod when that happens, i would recomend to wait. allthough i would really like to see what you would do with terraria!
Even if we don't wait, when there's official respriting support, we'd still have the sprites when it's out. ;)
