You know, it's funny, we have this conversation and then I, not fifteen minutes later, find a mod that doesn't look terrible, actually.

It says it's a WIP but it's already added a new ore type, several hardmode bosses, new weapons, new vanity items, new accessories, something called "capture the flag". Nice spritework, and has some pretty ambitious ideas for future versions, including "portals" and all the possibilities that entails.

I haven't tried it, but it seems to fit in with the flavor of the game too, and doesn't seem to fall into the trap of "SIX MILLION WEAPONS THAT DO THE SAME THING BUT LOOK DIFFERENT". Only negative to it that I can see is that it doesn't add very many, if any new decorative blocks. I'm also not sure how hard the new bosses and such are. I haven't tried it yet, probably will here in a few.

EDIT: Okay, capture the flag appears to just be an officially supported "game mode" for multiplayer, you place stations and run the flag around as you'd expect. Neat.

EDIT2: There's a mild bug where hallowed ore is spawning before you beat the boss you're supposed to, but you can't mine it until you break into hardcore ANYWAY, so it's not a huge deal and will probably be fixed anyway.

EDIT3: Okay maybe the mod is actually dead and progress on it has stopped? I don't know, nobody has stopped posting in it since april which was supposedly when it died, and nobody ever came in to lock the thread.


Yeah, seems like it's dead, which is a pity, it had some issues but overall the added content seems pretty solid. Although this has lead me to realize some mods are actually not terrible. I'll just run through a bunch of these and post a summary at some point, see if some life can't be drummed back into the terraria thread.

What about Obsidian?  That mod looked very promising.

I tried it back when it got plugged on Terraria's front page months ago.  I only put like half an hour into it, but I liked what I saw.  It felt worth exploring.  I just haven't been in the mood for Terraria in a long time.  If people are interested in mods, I'd like to know if this one gets approval after more a more in-depth play.

I'm having fun building my base under a mountain, using natural walls and contours as much as possible. The NPCs and myself still have proper rooms of course, except for the Dryad, who gets a grassy room. Now that Skeletron has been beaten, I've been harvesting dungeon brick which will form a solid shell around the base as a defensive measure. So far I have the Guide, the Merchant, the Demolitionist, the Dryad, the Nurse, the Arms Dealer, and the Mechanic. For some reason, the Nurse's room keeps getting co-opted by other NPCs until I can get a home for them built - for a while, she, the Arms Dealer, and the Mechanic were all living in the same room.

Yeah, I actually saw that too! I'm gonna take a look at that after I'm done looking around at Rebirth. Got it loaded into Tconfig and everything. :P

Modding scene certainly seems to have progressed a decent amount at the very least. Good to see.

I always found the EoW easy and quick to farm. iCthulhu always gave me grief, and I only ever beat Skeletron once.

Currently digging through an underground jungle, hoping to get enough supplies in this trip for all of those jungle-themed items (especially the vine whip thing).

On the subject of bases, I'm making my first "biodome" in an attempt to keep the hallow and corruption out after WoF goes down. I'd be mentioning more mod stuff but litterally all of it is post WoF.

You still remember that? The one where we spent hours just trying to disarm and figure out where the guy was stashing his stuff?

I still remember falling into some of the potholes.
And then there was that one time I gathered everyone together to blow up an ebonstone chasm. I used all of the dynamite in existance to get that thing rigged.

with an arena, EoW can easily be beaten in iron armour.

also, you'll want the mace you can get from shadow orbs, that can *really* damage him.

my only problem is I am unable to solo any hardmode bosses. I tried all sorts of exploits, but I just find it impossible.

Mine. Get full adamantine armour. Farm waffles for a clockwork assault rifle. Farm underground hollow for tons of cursed flames. Makes lots(several thousands) of cursed bullets.

i find a mana flower plus crystal storm plus grav potions plus adam to be fine for the twins. for destroyer you want adam plus a glaive or magic harp. demon scythe works too. and for skeletron prime set up a long walkway with hermes and ranged weaponry.

melee helm for all bosses, ofc. also you want a cross necklace and wings+spectre, ofc.

If you need Adamantite, just go to the Underworld, drink the treasure-seeking potion, and search the roofs. You should find a lot of it, provided you smashed a few demon altars.

I actually did it without an arena, in iron, ends up the trick is to play offensively. Don't really try to dodge him, just keep hammering on him, usually you'll break his head several times in a row and do severe damage while deflecting his attack. Thaaaattt's the ticket. I've never really liked making arenas for bosses for some reason anyway. Beat all of them without one, back in the day.

It also ends up the mod I'm using does have some pre hardmode content but it is so ridiculous that I can't see beating it without hardmode equipment, so. I'll do a big writeup on each mod when I'm done with it, rather then parse it out over several posts.
