That'll be a lot of digging :|
What blocks are immune to corruption/hallowfication? Bricks, I assume. I'm not gonna leave gaping holes in the landscape to accidentally fall down.

Or just go all-Hallow. As long as your base is explosive-proofed and you have trapped doors, you shouldn't have problems. I actually prefer living in Hallow to living in normal, because IIRC those HM shade-things that can pass through solid ground don't spawn in Hallow. Of course you should still make biospheres preserving the natural biomes somewhere up in SPEHSS.

Clay is immune. And silt. Also, grassless dirt, but I'm not sure if it doesn't spread hallow/corruption via dirt background.

Good lord, I hope not D:
Digging those pits is gonna take long enough, I don't want to have to hammer the background out the whole way down as well.

Who the hell is taking my doors? Every time I get on the server my doors are missing.

Goblins. Zombies. Goblins can break doors, and zombies can bust 'em on a blood moon.

Get some switchable blocks and place them outside your door. When you log off, hit the switch to toggle the blocks into their "on" state. Zombies and goblins can't buts down your doors when solid stone is covering them up :P

No need to dig to hell, just isolate your base from the rest of the ground.

Did you miss the "under a mountain" bit? I also have a tunnel under the base that leads (eventually) to hell. I didn't bother with a hellavator and instead used natural cave systems as much as possible.

Having a mountain above you will only matter if you're unlucky. When you activate hardmode, a big streak of Hallow and one of Corruption are shot through the map, they then begin to spread along blocks. As long as the streak doesn't hit your mountain, you just need to dig a U shape underneath it.

Another question: Can snow become corrupted/hallowfied? There's a snow biome a short distance from my base that I'd rather not lose.

Alternatively, you could let someone edit the map w/ an external program to separate a hallow and the corruption.
