Roll to Hack RELOADED (5/8+)

This is a re-done, recompiled and re-built version of Roll to Hack. There are hackers, anti-hackers, and users on a network, you try to outdo the other side.
Code: (Object of the Game) [Select]
... is to stop the other side from stopping you. :P
Hackers try to gain control of the network, anti-hackers try to rid the network of hackers, users try to not get their personal data lost/stolen.


Code: (System) [Select]
The system has been revamped from last game, partially due to gameplay and partially due to me learning about stuff.
:P

Every turn, you post a public move (network move) and a private move (localhost move). Localhost moves will be shown only to teammates/yourself, public moves are broadcast to everyone.

Moves are very freeform - if it's something that's very obscure, please provide a link (so that I could update faster :P)

Code: (Classes) [Select]
(Classes are areas of specialization)
Hardware: You can change/update/whatever your hardware quickly and easily. [hidden bonuses]
Software: You are pro at installing things and coding. [hidden bonuses]
Math: You are awesome at encrypting/decrypting stuff. [+x to en/decryption]
General: You kinda suck at everything, but you're willing to learn! [+x to learning][-1 to rolls]

Code: (Comp specs, OS, Software) [Select]
Total money: $2500+-500
Max rig cost: $1800

You can install any OS, any programs, anything on your comp, different combos get different bonuses.
Software takes time to install, try to include most of what you need beforehand. ;)
You can have more than one computer!

Also a note that you can rent servers out, instead of setting it up like the first Roll to Hack. It's based on power/programs.

Code: (Internet Protocols) [Select]
You may connect via:
 - FTP/HTTP
 - VPN
 - TelNet
 - any other one you can provide documentation :P
to another computer, with or without hacks/permission.

Code: (Gaming) [Select]
Gaming gives you Fun[sup]TM[/sup] points, which you can use to increase productivity later on. Gamers FTW!

Users who specify as Gamers get more of this at the cost of less startup money :P

Code: (/help) [Select]
You may use the /help system on any console (i.e. here or in your QuickTopic thread)

I suppose I'm in, considering I liked the last one a lot. But may I suggest that you could possibly pair us in teams of two? Since I think the main downfall of the game was not knowing whether or not you were actually doing something, it would be more fun than just sitting by yourself not knowing if your doing anything useful.

But then again, do whatever you want your the GM.

Here

Basically, each player would either be a Hacker, Anti-Hacker, or just a regular User. Hackers want to generally do malicious things involving hacking, Anti-Hackers want to prevent the hackers from doing this, and Users just try not to get hacked.

Yeah, you guys will be able to pair/team up, but not in the beginning.

Eh... I dunno, it's kind of hard to get a read on how the old game played or what it was even about, what with most of it apparently taking place outside the thread. It kind of reads like playing a Mafia game in the dark. :\

But, what the heck. IN.

Got a couple of questions, though. As far as starting currency, I'm guessing that non-rig stuff is just going to be handwaved, with whatever we have leftover being used for buying needed upgrades and such later on down the road. I'm also assuming that we have to buy software in addition to hardware. That said, are we going to have a shopping list to work from or should we just throw some Newegg prices at you or something? Because I can stretch that $1800 pretty far, in real-world terms.

Edit: also, operating on the assumption that our setups are a private, only-maybe-open-to-teammates thing.

Just send my your own shopping list :D
Technically you just get me a list with hardware/software you buy for $1800+-500 (depending on class/money/whatevs), you can get free software though.
Your computer config is only known to you, and others who find it through internet protocol.
Router/wifi/whatevs are also included in this cost. Stuff like phones, food, etc. is not.

So anyway, I'm going to be out of touch for 2-3 days for Thanksgiving. I don't know if that's even like a big deal considering we're still a few players short, but I figured I'd mention it all the same, in case the ranks fill up while I'm gone.

Also, I'm sorry I still haven't finished my shopping list, TK, but I might have a couple of hours tonight to screw around before things get started, in which case I'll see if I can knock it out and send it your way.
