Objective's new avatar reminded me of the walruses I used to doodle on school work, and so I recreated it in Inkscape.

Shook, I like how your lizards are really gaining detail with each passing drawing.

Good work to ya! c:

Thanks very much! c:
Honestly though, i still like making simpler drawings of dinosaurlizardthings, what mostly matters is what kind of drawing that i/one is setting out to make. It's also a fact that it takes a LOT longer to draw with a higher detail level, for fairly obvious reasons, and as it happens, i am a very lazy man. :P

and do you know how my laziness also shows?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

the extremely conservative shading on these two gurls

In my own defense though, it's hard to get a good enough look at people when they're also trying to draw someone. :v (also the blurry photos make the drawings look WAY better than they actually are)
Also, if the second drawing seems a bit stretched, it's because i was looking at the paper from a fairly shallow angle while drawing. I had to find a comfortable position where i wouldn't move my head around too much, and then all of a sudden she has a long face when viewed straight on.

-shading real life grills-
Shook, push yer values more. More contrast between the darkest dark of the shading and the not-so-dark of the shading and the light not-shaded-at-all not-shading of the shading (aka light) will help make the shading stand out more.

I have the exact same problem of not pushing my values more in shading. I go with the really subtle soft variation in tones and eventually everything's the same shade of pencil-y grey. My justification is "I don't wanna mess up and ruin it! D:"

Oh i'm aware of that, i'm mostly just too lazy to fix it, but thanks for the advice. Relative values (read: shadows versus paper white) are also important in that it looks crazy bad if really subtle shadows are rendered with too much of a heavy hand (plus it's easier to add more pencil than it is to erase the right amount), and at the same time, i don't feel like adding colour to the ENTIRE face due to the time and effort required. :v

Also worth noting is that the lighting in the room really didn't lend itself well to clearly defined shadows, since it's basically a school room with a lot of powerful fluorescent lights scattered all over the ceiling, so most shadows were quite faint. But yes, my rendering of the shadows is TOO faint. :P

... It's not impossible. :P

Well, dayuuum.
Those are truly beautiful drawings, Shook.
Aw shiet, thanks Caroline. <3
