Well breasts, being rather useless for combat, would get nixxed immediately.

But this is all speculation outside of GW's hard-coded lore statement of "Emps is a man, the primarchs therefore were men, so the gene seed is incompatible with women".
Which to me makes sense. Why bother doing extensive and difficult modification on the gene seed just so you can get some affirmative action.

To get double the candidates? Given the numbers of humans in the galaxy and the small percentage of people that successfully survive the process, having the double amount of candidates would be beneficial.

Although that is also arguable, since if the procedure is actually different (as in not exactly the same) the rate of failure could be the same or even worst, which in turn then would left you with double or less the amount of space marines, with double or more efforts and investment, in which case it would be healthier simply to stick with the procedure which yields better results and double the efforts there.

I'm curious as to how a tank would evolve. Would it climb out of the primordial ooze wiggling it's track-nubs, feeding on smaller jeeps before crawling onto the shore having evolved proper treds?

Eh, number of candidates isn't really an issue.

Compared to number of space marines the number of humans is effectively infinite.
There's trillions of humans, so cutting out half of them basically makes no difference.

If it leads to a 1% more reliable process to specialise it towards males, then it's worthwhile, because there's endless seas of males to take the procedures.

I think I believe one stated reason was so they couldn't possibly breed among themselves and outcompete regular humans or something like that.

That would be hard considering that it was never clarified that Space Marines can even have children, so it would be hard for them to breed considering all those chopped riddly-diddlies and toxic acid spewing wombs...

Eh, number of candidates isn't really an issue.

Did you read the second paragraph? That's what I wrote, since even when having double candidates could in theory double the amount of space marines, you could do it by simply investing the double amount of money, time and effort, since given the population of the Imperium male candidates aren't in short supply. But yeah, perhaps I didn't express myself clearly.

Old lore depicted space marines retiring and having children with normal woman. Even if the process of making you a SM alter your DNA, I don't think most characteristics would be inheritable or anything (you wouldn't be born with two hearts or a power armor neural interface for example), at best those children would be just regular humans with some mutations that might give them an edge on the SP process, at worst they would be horrible mutants begging to die.

Does any of the implants actually change the DNA of the SM?

The reason space marines don't reproduce is nothing about their development is natural. It's all implantation, gene-therapy and hypno-indoctrination. Their spooge does not magically contain that wot makes someone a space marine. Nor can you just cram the gene-seed into someone and have it work.

The more correct question to ask is: why did the Emperor never try to implant the same organs and stuff in women.

And the answer is: when 40k became big, females in gaming were not a market like they are now.

Yeah, yeah we know that. But we are just burning some time while discussing what could be the lore causes of it.

Sorry. I've just seen this discussion so many times after a while it's like "Just make your SM real doll and get it over with."

Uh... I think more men want to play as girls than there are actually girl tabletop gamers.
Hence, sisters.

Edit: actually, on my mind; is there a reason why sisters traditionally have the platinum blonde hair?

Also Imperial Guard.
Speaking of Imperial Guard, if I ever get money to make my own, I will totally do this.

Only one group actually has hair like that, think it's the Order of the Martyred Lady but I'm not sure, and it's dyed as a tribute to their patron saint. The rest of the orders just have normal hair. The dyed ones just happen to be the Sisters poster girls like the Ultramarines are for Space Marines.

Yep. Though the white hair does happen in other Orders very rarely, it's usually either natural (proably because the sisters in questions are 923499239492394923 years old) or artist fuckup. I wish the whole tribute thing was more common since it's kind of like painting Space Wolves with Ultramarines toilet sign on them.

The Ultramarines are the best marines, so it makes sense that they would have Marines from other chapters working for them. :P
