As someone who hasn't had a single problem with lag, it's probably the way the visuals are set up. The game doesn't seem to be made of a bunch of flat images as one might expect, there seem to be a lot of complicated visual effects to improve the look of the game. Even on a 2D plane, these things can eat up resources surprisingly quickly, especially if the code isn't cooperating properly with your graphics card.

Mind you, this is just a guess and I could be completely wrong.

Yeah, i noticed that, still not see anything to eat that much. Wild and false guess: it have antialiasing( or anizotropic filtering? whatever) always enabled, which somehow bring my computer to it's knees even in freaking GTA San Andreas. But it's very wild and very false, and even if true, it doesn't explain most of the lag.

If you're having intense slowdown on San andreas and dark souls maybe it's time for an upgrade...

Spoiler: Help, I got stuck! (click to show/hide)
Switch characters, play a mission or two, then try and switch back?

Escape menu.
Change Galaxy.
Select your galaxy.

You'll fail the mission, but you'll be back at the base.

Throw yourself out of your ship, use your gun to get into the airlock, hijack the enemy ship and bring it to a halt.

Ok, this might be one of the smartest games ever made. Unplanned catastrophy and saving the mission when it seems impossible is great fun.

I just finished a great mission when I was thrown out more than once with an alarm active and almost no way to the captain to end the alarm, forget actually completing the objective. I might have just aborted but NO! Back in the ship. With a few seconds left, I killed one of the few un-armored guards and he had a Visitor on him, which I used to beam through a wall and kill the captain and end the alarm. The rest of the guards beamed in but the visitor popped me back. They quickly chased me down. Then a kill-pause-kill frenzy with a couple of swaps here and there and I had the guards shooting themselves. Took out a whole stack of them, then...the rest was a cakewalk.

I love how I can just boot the game super fast. play a mission or two, then get back to whatever I was doing. It's deep enough to be engaging for me, but the sessions short enough for some coffee break style play.

Best game of 2017.

I discovered my favorite starting character last night. She started with two shotguns. I bought a wrench just in case. This quickly turned into slipstreaming into a group of 3-5 enemies and dual-wrenching them all in the span of a few seconds and then repeating until I reach the captain. Then I switch to shotguns and mow down the rest (as long as it's not a pesky bloodless or ghost mission...).

I kind of wish I had completely taken over the galaxy before finishing the game and starting a new galaxy. I just made a lot of work for myself if I want to try for that again. On the upside, this new galaxy appears to have lots of self-charging crashbeams.

I just finished my first galaxy. It was set up so I had to conquer most of it anyway, so it took a while.

Also, the Glitcher conversation once you liberate their base is hilarious.

For space Halloween, death has been removed.
Also: literal ghost missions, literal skeleton crews.

Gaaaaaah. Personal mission to steal something valuable, entire enemy crew with perma-shields and teleporters. It was also one of those hyper-annoying arrowhead Offworld ships where the airlock was on one side, the objective clear around to the other side, with literally the entire ship and absolutely no other docking areas or breach zones in between. I was so very close to the final keycard, but the guards were on alert and the ship was on its way to port.

I had had piss-poor luck with subverters, crashbeams, or key cloners with this character. I did have a self-charging high-capacity sidewinder and a silenced armor-piercing rifle, but those didn't do anything directly against the guards. Using the sidewinder and a cloaking device, I made it all the way to the Level 8 doors by teleporting behind the key-holding guards and stealing their stuff. And that's when I screwed up one final time and took a concussion round to the face. The guards picked me up and

ever

so

slowly

dragged me clear through the entire ship towards the airlock. Did I mention that I had a good 70 seconds on the capture timer when I got shot? Yeah, we were still a good five rooms away when the ship reached port and I was captured.

Has anyone ever broken windows just to give guards a faster way to throw you out? I haven't yet, but the thought of opening up an extra entrance/exit has occasionally crossed my mind, and maybe learning when to do so pre-emptively will be another tiny bump in average survivability.
