Noted, noted, and noted. Given Firaxis's involvement with X-Com, I can guess what it does. Of course kills don't mean much, but they seem like the kind of thing soldiers would boast about. And yeah, that's odd.

Re-enter the reactor area. Search for the problem. Don't jump at it.
(Get the suit with the grappling hook (skeleton suit) and get up somewhere high. Doesn't even have to be that much higher. But yeah, Snipers should always go up high and in the rear, so they get best line of sight while using squadsight and staying out of the line of fire. Make sure to give them scopes (obviously) and powerful rifles. And remember that their accuracy INCREASES at long distance and DECREASES at medium and short. )

Yeah, after this you should try the old game. It's much better, in some ways, with letting you have more guys and customize everything a lot more, not to mention not doing that thing where aliens appear and then run around for a free turn.

But there will be times near the end where missions will go like this:

Get out of the skyranger
See 50 enemies leering out of the darkness
Get back in the skyranger.
