Trolls?  No, a Troll is not the most logical conclusion.  Ignorance is.

You've just gotta take a look at your local education system... and consider how many people still struggle at passing it...

EDIT: For clarification, in America. Hell yea?

As an American highschool student I can honestly tell you: however uneducated and ignorant you think the average American students are, in reality they're much worse.

Hahahaha the education system really sucks because its too easy to pass and then we have shitload of idiots doing jobs which require some knowlegde and qualifications. In Poland, a lot of people dont even pass Middle School, and majority would not pass if it the teachers were not merciful. There are much less educated people in America judging from your posts, though.

Here, we solve problems like kids not passing classes by lowering our standards.

Not just education, either. If it's something everyone's expected to have, expect any barriers to be lowered until everyone can get it. Driver's Licenses is a big example of that.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

But this is not a problem about education, I mean, how did they manage to completely avoid a reference to B.C.

They know about the olympics, certainly they've watched TV.
They access the internet.
They use Twitter.

How is it even possible to avoid a reference to B.C.?

Imagine how stupid the average person is. Now realize that half of them are even dumber than that.

And dumber still, somehow.

You'd be surprised at how dumb a lot of people actually are. This girl in my English class thought that one of Shakespeare's plays was written in the 1800s and based on a Disney movie. This was not a miscommunication, she actually thought that not only was Shakespeare alive and writing in the 1800s, but Disney movies were also being made at that time and Shakespeare copied the plot to one of them and made a play.

Well, that. Also, while I'm all for apportioning blame, let us make sure we apportion blame fully and to all involved, not just the most visible. If we are to blame, we must blame the school system, the politicians that cripple it, the parents that don't notice or care their children are uneducated, or are unable to do anything about, the society that engenders this state of ignorance, and finally the people themselves.

Gods only know I wish I could shift all the blame onto someone else (High school did almost everything in its power to cripple me for higher education and actual society), ultimately, the knowledge is there if you seek to find it. To not have it is to not want it, or at the very best not have the will and energy to find it.

To add some perspective to ignorance:

"18 percent believe the sun revolves around the Earth."

I don't even know what to say. If the world doesn't end this December (which I doubt it will) we should definitely do our best to end it ourselves. Preferably with an ocean of magma.

Having been through the American public education system, I'm not surprised in the slightest. Not to say that all of the blame lies on the teachers or the government, as there is plenty to heap on parents, societal norms, and the idiots themselves.
