We spent our 6/6 on that location. Tell us what we found.

You bring up a good point.

Intermission: Don't Touch the Phlebotinum

The team arrives at the non dispersing dune location... and finds a flat piece of land, as the dune has since dispersed. After looking around and feeling dumb for a while, one notices a small green lump of material sticking out of the ground.

The team scientist inspects it, holding it up to the light. "Yep - cracked and a little dusty, but definitely an andantesite crystal. With some work we could get that gravitic shield working."

What do you do with it?

A: Send it to the Military Base and adapt it for shielding there
B: Send it to Antarctica and adapt it for shielding there
C: Try to determine why it was generating an anomaly and why it's stopped
D: Attempt to connect a control crystal so we can use it as a tactical weapon here.

C, very very C. We might be able to figure out how to disable these things.

C has been selected.

Spoiler: Dice (click to show/hide)

Inspection of before/after surveys reveals that this particular weapons crystal begun generating a gravitational anomaly a week ago, slightly after the rebels escaped from the museum, and ceased to generate the anomaly two days ago. The dune dispersed soon after.

It becomes rapidly apparent that the crystal was linked to a control shard stolen from the museum, and that the rebels sent commands through it to turn on the remaining offensive crystals. Further study reveals a method to delink the crystal and link it to another control shard.

Crystals are linked by entanglement to a control shard, which is easiest at the time of refinement and crystallization - but a link can be broken by subjecting either crystal to a beam of monochromatic, polarized light for a long period of time. Currently the best option is to bombard it with radio waves for 14.03 hours, and the equipment to do that is being moved from the Capital with all possible speed, and should arrive within a week. The time required and frequency of light are inversely proportional, however, and using a visible light beam - such as a laser - would allow near-instantaneous disconnection, with the potential for interesting and humorous tactical deployment.

Next intermission up tomorrow.

Well, laser-based countermeasures to gravitic manipulation crystals that allow people to fly and manipulate forces of nature...

What am I saying? Laser guns!

Of course we don't have actual harmful lasers, but, say, disabling the MacGuffin while they're in the air... or flying sideways... or using it as a weapon...

And I can confirm that the end result of this will be a button that says "click remote, kill MacGuffin" The rebels will of course now look for a totally different Macguffin to save Anna

Hey, we just need to keep it away from the rebels. We've got other stuff we can work with.

Intermission: In Medias Res or How Jacob Edlin Got Away

By now, details have come about regarding the mission to transport Jacob Edlin to his point of exile on the South Georgias Islands.

Apparently, Jacob was assisted in his escape by a guardsman on board his transport ship, the sister of one of the children made into Cherubs. She distracted the other guards and released him from his holding cell. They were able to make it to the bridge, incapacitating the captain and helmsman, and using all the other personnel on the boat as human shields in order to prevent the escort boat from firing. The escort boat did not fire, and the transport ship escaped, warning the escort not to follow.

The order to not fire or follow behind was traced to a lieutenant on the escort ship, in command of the squad of soldiers there. He freely admits to backing off in order to save the people on the transport ship, and most of this information comes from his eyewitness report. He seems competent, if somewhat overconfident.

What do you do with him?
A: Do nothing; allow him to finish his debriefing and go back to his duties.
B: Congratulate and/or promote him for his actions (-1 military, random 0 to 3 gain political)
C: Berate and/or demote him for letting emotions get in the way of his judgement (-1 political, random 0 to 3 gain military)
D: Execute him publically (-3 political, random 0 to 4 gain military)
E: Pretend to congratulate him and then quietly kill him (-2 political, random 0 to 4 gain military, high chance of complications and/or further defections)
F: Ask him a specific question before proceeding (give me questions!)

First: Which direction the rebels were headed? (west north east northeast up down to hell?) Info about the traitor, alive parents? Personality? (explosive, calm, smart, dumb, good shooter?) personal opinion where he thinks they might be headed, residence of the traitor, knowledge can make us find them again.

She might move
A) To a family house before moving (dumb move, we can even blackmail her)
B) To somewhere she always wanted to visit before moving  (another dumb move, we saw your trip megazines lady)
c) just be smart and go to the first tactical place where she can hide better (In the end, there will be no escape from the empire)

These guys is going to get a death penalty for  "Plotting against the military and making hostages multiple times"

We have what?
Military +2 (+1ID +1????? i don't know if the cherubs or the dogs counted, i just put 2 here because you said it in another post)
Tech: +2
Info:0
Political:+2 (-1cherubs +1ID +2 from "beach massacre")

I would say that after F we vote or B or C we shouldn't vote anything that make us have a 0 again or a negative number (the ones that sacrifice 2-3 political), But this -1 for a +? is worth it. Then in the science time we can focus on making research to improve our tech and spying better on people

F; Ask what the traitor looked like, did she ever talk about her beliefs before the incident.
B; promote him, I think we could use the good PR.

Debriefing of Lieutenant Wetnon Celling

First: Which direction the rebels were headed? (west north east northeast up down to hell?)

CELLING: They were moving west when they left sight. They warned us not to pursue, so I came here as fast as possible while staying out of their sight. If I were them, though, I would move in the wrong direction for several miles in order to throw off pursuit.

Info about the traitor, alive parents? Personality? (explosive, calm, smart, dumb, good shooter?)

CELLING: As far as I know, Ensign Armen DeMarco's father was killed in action defending the Baron of Argentina twenty years ago, when she was three. Her mother is still alive. I didn't know her that well, but she seemed calm, though defensive and frustrated with life. And I have it on good authority that she's a terrible shot.

(note: A quick look through our archives confirms all this)

personal opinion where he thinks they might be headed,

CELLING: Well, let's analyze this from a plot perspective.

DEBRIEFER: A what?

CELLING: A plot perspective, as this suggestion game is clearly going to parody a bunch of different cliches.

DEBRIEFER: I have no idea what you are talking about.

CELLING: Of course not. I'm not even talking to you. I'm talking to the mysterious voice of the empire, the group deciding all our actions and pulling all the strings. The people huddled around computers one reality up from here, spinning all our troubles and tribulations for shits and giggles.

DEBRIEFER: If that's so, I doubt they'd approve of you breaking the fourth wall.

CELLING: Fair point. Well, as I was saying, a hero receives a call to adventure, and does he take it? No. He rejects it. He clings on to the ordinary world. He tries to leave, thinks only of himself, physically distances himself from anything disruptive... anything rebellious.

DEBRIEFER: I see. So Jacob Eldin surrendering represents him questioning rebel values and fighting with his own sense of right and wrong. That's for sure.

CELLING: Right. So, having run away from the plot, what do our dear writers do to get him back?

DEBRIEFER: You really should stop breaking the fourth wall.

CELLING: (dismissively) Anyway. The call goes after him. The hero is forced to reconsider the Special World, questions are brought up that demand answers. It can be anything. A person, a battle, a letter, but something goes after him. The conflict is shoved in his face.

DEBRIEFER: And that's Ensign Armen, and her Cherub brother and dead father. A reminder of why he's rebelling.

CELLING: Yes. The conflict is shoved in his face, and what does he do? He accepts. He runs back. He's going back to Argentina, sir, and you would do well to be there when he arrives.

residence of the traitor, knowledge can make us find them again.

CELLING: She's Chilean born. Her mother lives near Cape Horn. She'll pass it on her way back to the West Coast of South America.

She might move
A) To a family house before moving (dumb move, we can even blackmail her)
B) To somewhere she always wanted to visit before moving  (another dumb move, we saw your trip megazines lady)

Oh come on! None of our lieutenants would be that foolish and shallow! She did betray the Empire Republic which can't possibly be a good mark against her however.

These guys is going to get a death penalty for  "Plotting against the military and making hostages multiple times"

They'll hang all right.

We have what?

We are only at +1 military. ID was the only thing that increased that. Special forces (cherubs, dogs) have no effect on the general military competence reading.

Whelp, I guess C is the proper way to deal with this, for maximum stat gain. Let's go with the "berate" part though; he is, after all, simply a character in the game and clearly to tired for this "plot" bullshit.
