Antarctica is, at this time, likely the most populous location on the planet due to the fact that we're at relatively modern tech while everyone else is only starting the renessiance. Black hole or not, nearly half the world population might die if the wormhole explodes. Additionally, since the city is not situated at the South Pole, yet the damage would cover all of the continent, it must extend to some other continent as well, either the southern sections of South America or Africa or something like half of Australia.
