Shipkilled, Week 1
Simdic's Log, Granite:
"It is the 5th of Granite, and our people have arrived at the foot of a glorified hill. The local area is well forested, and prospectors have reported signs of a few veins of coal and iron. We were even blessed to find a natural conflux of mana that we quickly moved to exploit. On any other day, I would be happy to claim this as a new Hold for the dwarven people. But now, with nearly half our initial number missing, and the icy grip of Winter closing over the land, I fear the steam drill we stole is not enough.

Observations: Temperature holds at -20 Celsius, snowfall is moderate."

Pretty sure you just gather wood twice or thrice depending on if you can use current wood stockpiles to construct the long-term benefit of a saw-mill, and the fourth action is gather food if you can utilize current wood stockpiles

You can indeed use resources gathered this turn for various projects.

Godspeed you glorious dwarven fools.

Heh; where we're going, Glory is certain to be attained. In what form is the question, of course.

Anyway, I'm going to draft up a plan or two...

Current Resources, for convenience
Wood : 0 (1)
Steel : 0 (2)
Coal : 0 (3)
Food: 0 (3) (-1 Temp per turn)

Steam Cores: 0 (1)
Mana: 1 (1)

Quote from: Plan Early Infrastructure
Gather Wood x2 (+2 temp wood)
Construct Sawmill (-3 temp wood, +1 perm wood)
Build Beacon (-2 temp steel)

This plan is simple, get that Sawmill up and running ASAP to lessen how much we have to 'Gather Wood'. The Beacon is more its the only thing we could really do with our steel, and gathering more wood is pointless as the Sawmill would handle that. Could gather something else instead.

Quote from: Dig Deep
Gather Wood x3 (+3 temp wood)
Steam Drill (Free) (-1 temp coal, -2 temp wood, +2 depth)
Construct Workshop (-1 temp wood, -1 temp steel)

This plan's technically a bit more flexible, we could swap out the workshop for the Beacon for instance, or do some Exploratory Mining, or build Housing. Our tents are livable at the moment though, so we'll be fine there for a bit. We can't fire the Drill and build a Sawmill, however. That needs 5 wood, and we only have 1, one action too short to do all that in one turn. Anyway, ideally we fire up the drill for our digging, saves us 2 actions for the cost of only 1 coal. Obviously, we won't always be able to do things ideally.

Plan Long-Term: (1) SC
Plan Dig Deep

It’s more action-economy beneficial and less strain on our workers?, the earlier we get a Sawmill up and than for the following turn focus on a workshop and digging deeper, and I thought the Beacon required wood to co strict but have edited, I mean you could gather future food, but research into the more permanent resource generators should be followed. Long-Term and Early Infrastructure are equivalent in actions

Best to spend this turn getting moving on permanent infrastructure like the beacon and the sawmill, for sure. Next turn we can start digging to get away from the cold, or possibly the turn after that, depending on how fast the weather turns. We'll need to send expeditions to gather whatever we can, too, though I rather like the idea of becoming self-sufficient instead of bothering to do anything else.

Agreed, unless we left unique items behind.

Simdic's Log, Granite:
"The snowfall hasn't stopped. Half our labor is clearing paths, or floundering through the snow. Still, we've managed the beginnings of infrastructure. A beacon to guide our scouts, and a sawmill. The forest shows no signs of depletion yet. We are however, nearly out of stored resources.

Observations: Temperature remains at -20 Celsius, snowfall is increasing"

I think it's time to go down, and start opening options.

Gather Wood x 2
Steam Drill (special snowflake action)
Gather Steel x 1
Construct Workshops

EDIT: Plan's invalid because of wood shortage.

Sounds like a good plan. We need to get as deep as we can early on, since we will probably have bigger concerns soon. Like food.

The big concern right now is getting deep so we don't need to waste any time or actions on housing. The depths themselves should provide for us for now.

I meant the fact that we are almost out of food.
