Dust Digger Enterprises, believing that people are SLEEPING on SAND, and should not be UNDERESTIMATING POWDER, would like to set up a voyage to the Nearsouthlands to provide a potentially steady source of income compared to the dangerous voyages of the West. Perhaps companies with amply voyages could spare a Guinea or two in order to provide themselves with a backup source of income that could be cashed in later in the event of disastrous loss in the Copper Trade?

To Queen Phillipa the Fourth,

We, the undersigned, hereby agree to buy a ship, the 'Sandman', to sail the trade route between the Motherland and the Nearsouthlands. Investments will be as follows:

-3 Guineas from Dust Digger Enterprises

The profits will be split proportionally by Investment between the signatories.

Share-backed for 2g should suffice.

Quote from: Sharks Loans share backed
To Queen Phillipa the Fourth,

We, the undersigned Sharks & Loans, agree to transfer 2 guineas to the undersigned company,Blue Fish Enterprises , for the purpose of buying shares in the ship "Sandman".
The profits of the shares bought will belong to Shark & Loans until the debt has been repaid, while Y retains voting control.  Y can extinguish the debt at any time, up to the maximum term of 6 months, at which points the ownership of the shares is forfeit and they will be permanently transfered to Sharks & Loans. In case the debt is repaid during a trip, The cargo upon arrival will be split according to the elapsed time in the voyage when the loan was terminated. Alternatively, the debtor may freely choose to instead pay an equivalent quantity of money using the market price at the time. For example, if the loan is terminated at half a voyage, half the cargo brought back will belong to Shark&Loans.

Signed:
-Shark&Loans
-

Just to be clear: this means that you buy the shares and their voting control, but until you give me back the principal, all profits from those shares belong to me as interest. If you don't repay by the end of the term, you cede ownership. This has a few advantages and disadvantages. Disadvantage is that you are paying a far higher interest. Advantage is that, at worst, it is like you had never bought them since you paid no principal, no interested and collected no money. Plus, if the ship sinks the only collateral I can get is the shares of the ship rather than other assets.
In effect, it is like I was buying the shares and giving you the option to buy them from me within a given time.
(so, I guess we are introducing options to the game)

0.5 Guineas is a little bit of an awkward remaining quantity — can I just loan that half a guinea from you, Andrea? It should be pretty trivial to pay back, so we can set a term of three months for it (one additional month for the event of delay).

Sure. That is the purpose of my company.

Quote from: Sharks Loans nominal interest loan
To Queen Phillipa the Fourth,

We, the undersigned Sharks & Loans, agree to transfer 0.5 guineas to the undersigned company, Dust Digger Enterprises
This amount will incur into a monthly interest of 10% of the initial sum. The initial sum will need to be repaid in full after 3 months. Failure to pay interests or to provide the full initial sum at the end will cause expropriation of assets for at least equal value.
In consideration of the cyclical nature of trade, it is agreed that interest payments can be suspended for up to 3 months. The amount due will still need to be paid either immediately or spread across the rest of the loan. No further suspension can be awarded until there is no longer outstanding suspended interest.

In the interest of putting as many ships on copper as possible (since a more highly-trafficked zone will likely be safer), H&S Inc will be offering interest-free loans.
