^ Yes. I finally downloaded 2010 (.12) and played around - wildlife seems to be much less able to kill you (buffed armor/layering system, I think). I don't think I've ever defeated a giant desert scorpion in 40d, and I took out two in the same ambush in 2010. Multiple times.

Wolves were great at getting their butts royally stomped by you - and then one would get a lucky throat tear-out before you could finish them all off. Game over, even though you were clearly winning the whole time.

So I started up a new character, bought some plate armor, then went to get a quest. This is what happened.

I really should have just killed the sheep...

actually, 40d was probably more realistic.  the armor might keep you alive for a bit but animals typically are much faster/more powerful/have higher pain tolerance than people.  you put on some heavy armor and take on a pack of wolves...let me know how that goes...

That's what cages and minecart shotguns are for!  We don't need to control them.  We just need to aim them.

Well, REALISTICALLY -swords- can't pierce chainmail. So a human in fullplate and chain would just be laying on the ground with wolves hurting their teeth. And if he has a knife, he wins!

Another goblin picture. This goblin is standing in a cave/dark fortress entrance, holding a halberd, and just being awesome in general.

in full platemail and chain mail, wolves would be causing bruising on the chain parts and very easily breaking fingers or dislocating joints.  (they are strong little buggers)  My point is, I like when wildlife presents a challenge and isnt just weak training dummies.

Without assuming that the wolves in these worlds are the same as in ours, they seem to be no more or less the challenge than they need to be. There are other enemies for that. Try beak dogs.

My friend drew this picture of my adventurer last night in colored pencils. He is clearly a legendary engraver.

This deserves the newcomer macro to be stamped on it.

Anyway, bone weapons are epic, but slow on ettins. Having a speed of ~1870 helped alot too, seeing as i have a, not only a lack of cassualties, but noone who was in my 3 man group(1 Xbowman, 1 hammerman; as hammers are actually impresive supporting weapons, and a miscillaneous adventurer with a bone longsword as a main weapon) had not one injury. I tried starving to the point of being able to butcher it, but sleeping is VERY slow. By the way, the ettin's body turned my speed ~1870, into ~180. D:
I was also very close to having a completely exclusive hammer team if not to my forsight that making a hammer for myself would be tactically stupid as by Xbow dwarf was running out of ammo. I also bought some stuff, and got a quest from a wailord warlord to kill a bronze collosus all the way in the northern hemisphere. And i met a preist with the title "holy seducer" :o
They appearantly worshipped jelousy or some shist.

On an ending note, my harmerman ran off to fight a broken elbow and a smashed apart toe that won't heal on fast travel. :-\

With cleavage like that it might be a rather unhealthy obsession as well...

I was talking about the swordsmanship....

... really...
