So I've got a problem in my current game, and I'm wondering if anyone has any bright ideas. I'm currently clearing a system of precursors with a rather large (13 ship) task group. During the first engagement my point defense destroyers performed admirably against both ASM and AMM salvos. After defeating that group of ships I follwed a retreating ship back to a planet, where there appear to be 3 PDCs in addition to the large AMM ship in orbit (there are also several size 24 missles in orbit, I'm guessing these are mines). When I approach the planet I take AMM fire (in large salvos), which my point defense ships refuse to target. All of my weapons are assiged to the correct fire control, each firecontrol is set to final fire point defense and I've even tried assigning the ships missle salvos as target and telling them to open fire.  Is there any trick I'm missing to get them to engage the missles?

Final Defensive Fire should fire on AMMs just fine. No idea what the problem might be.

Maybe it doesn't work specifically in invading instances for some reason? Maybe has something to do with the reason why my asteroid mining NEVER works :[

The only thing I can think of is if you've set PD to Area Defense and they're crossing your engagement envelope in less than five seconds.

Or they're set to self only FDF and the missiles are targeted at the other ships.

So, awhile back I talked about giving an LP another try. I haven't given up plans on it, but I changed it some based on feedback. For one thing, I figured if I'm just taking suggestions rather than orders then a longer game with an extra-solar enemy is in order. I've got things mostly ready, but thought I'd ask for feedback once more before I commit.

Final Defensive Fire should fire on AMMs just fine. No idea what the problem might be.

It worked roughly a day before on the same missles, I'm just trying to figure out what setting got bumped that broke it.

The only thing I can think of is if you've set PD to Area Defense and they're crossing your engagement envelope in less than five seconds.

In the previous engagement I was closing, in this engagement in trying back off. That leads to a change delta v of ~10,000 km/s between the two encounters (i.e. the AMMs should be moving 25% slower relative to my ships), which should only work in my favor. In any case, my ships are on final fire (not self only).

Is it possible that the change in relative velocities is screwing something up in the initiative order?

Hm. Are your FCs still properly linked? Because if you're operating in group FDF, you should be able to attack any enemy missiles, so long as you have FCs, EW, and power plants, even if you don't have them on sensors or if you have a 0% CTH.

More tutorial advertising! This one is episode 6 and contains terraforming. You did your homework from episode 5 right? Also, a special bonus to people who comment and subscribe

Would anyone happen to know the developer's password? I've had a good game going for 10 years now (Recently expanded into the Alpha Centuri system and found a cost 1 planet with millions of minerals  :D) only to suddenly suffer game-breaking slowdowns (Even using automatic turns) that are likely from some NPR fighting I can't see.  >:(

I figure finding and ceasing the existence of one or more of the guilty parties is my only option.

I've already proceeded registration on the Aurora forums but nothing has come up for a couple of days now.

The developer changed the password the last time someone PMed it on this forum.

I don't necessarily agree with his stance on the issue, but it's his choice. Sorry.

You can also bypass NPR slowdown by autoturning for a while.

You can also ask the developer directly for the password so you can find out which NPRs are slowing you down like that.

@ lavender: nicely done. if a bit low on sound volume.

Now the critique. ;)
You forgot to change the shipclass-designation, I think, after copying the geoship.
Although this does not have much impact on how the game runs, it does make selecting the right ship-type from a pulldown list much easier. (don't have to remember the name of each ship design)

As a suggestions for future video tutorials: perhaps some longterm issues
"Carriers and fighters- design, production and strategic use."
"Politics-dealing with NPC's peacefully."

"Politics-dealing with NPC's peacefully."

By which you mean "Proper methods of conquest, subjugation, and usage of billions of barbarian slaves, with additional notes on the efficiency and satisfaction of various methods of xenocide, with reference to population death per given unit of resources, time, or wealth."
