But doesn't the meteorite land just when shadow orb is crushed? And the number of orbs is limited?

Neonivek: hey, I do not think Terraria's bosses are GREAT. But I do think they do their job just fine and are generally fun enough to raid and not really all that terrible.

They would be fine as a side boss or as a boss to build you up to a genuinly good boss.

But it doesn't build to anything.

They are just mediocre in a game that has no great boss.

Terraria bosses were much better than those in Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Yeah but I think, assuming this is the Deus Ex I am thinking of, the gameplay was a lot better in it then in Terraria. Meaning that it holds up better.

Took the advice mentioned previously and rolled my minecraft server thread into a general server thread about any servers I am running.

http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=112705.msg3425555#msg3425555

We can keep discussing terraria here or do it there, I don't care.

Well, if you put it that way, then yes, I must agree. I think the reason why Terraria's bosses feel like side bosses and they don't build up on anything is because Terraria is not your ordinary boss-oriented game. It more like "walk around, fight, dig, build and oh hey! there's a boss let's go fight it".
Guess that's just how it is... :\

Haspen: errrr...well, I did mine out quite some clay recently. Enough to make 149 clay plates, actually. See, I need those plates! There will be soup pot! With soup for everyone!

But I'll try to go find some and donate it, now I know you need it. By the way, where are you building this? Left--right?

Also the project is just above Dave's house, which is past my house, which in turn is west of spawn. A ladder leads up to construction site.

I think the boss focus of "can magically phase through walls" was extremely cheap, and precluded making bosses that were actually tough because then they'd be unbeatable.

So here's my "boss" proposal.

Description and Capabalities
A goblin enters from the left, riding a bipedal mech four times the size of a character. It has a machine gun, which shoots quickly and does decent damage, a rocket launcher, which works like bombs and destroys terrain, and a heavy cannon, which is like a slow machine gun with heavy damage that destroys a single line of blocks a few blocks deep when it hits it and can be exploded remotely, and moves very very fast for a projectile.

It also has a powerful melee swipe that destroys blocks in front of it, and a stomp that destroys the blocks under it's feet.

It can also jump and has jump jets for a double jump.

Behaviour
It will target players that closest to it with it's machine gun, unless they are in melee range (in which case it will swipe). It will use it's rocket launcher against enemies that are far enough away and will prioritize attacking clusters of enemies with it. If there are thick walls between it and it's target, it will attempt to get a distance from the walls and take them down with the rockets until it can path to it's target. It will also use rockets against thin walls with a target close on the other side.

For targets behind thin walls but a larger distance away, it will use the heavy cannon, and the machine gun can not fire vertically, meaning characters who attack it from above must be killed by rockets (slow moving) and the cannon (slow firing).

It will attempt to intelligently respond to and dodge incoming attacks, if possible.

If it can't path to a character and can't safely use rockets, it will attempt to dig to them with stomping and swiping. This is it's biggest weakness - if it can be lured underground, it's rockets can't be safely used and it loses most of it's mobility.

There, boss proposal. Tell me - would you rather fight something like that or the bosses Terraria offers now?

(and it doesn't cheat)

A boss like this would really force the player to think of appropriate fight strategy...Or at least fight it far away from any buildings that you would not like to see destroyed. Because this boss would absolutely devastate terrain.
Which could be extremely fun, but I am guessing it would be a lag-fest in MP.
And why a goblin pilot. >:O
But nice idea, IMHO.

Speaking of MP - I am away from server for just a few days and when I come back there are already totally new buildings sprouting everywhere? Sweet.

edit: but there are still two doors missing, at the inn and armory. :P

Cuz both spawn buildings are edit-protected.

Not only I can't place doors back, but I can't expand the buildings as well :I

I'll remove the spawn protection. Thought those buildings were done for now, so I moved the spawn inside the inn to make it safer.

I don't know. I guess I could spawn 45 clowns and find out. :D

When I'm the main architect, everything is prone to expansion at any given time :P

So I'm preparing to kill the WoF and enter hard mode. What sort of steps can I take to "hardmode-proof" my village? It's reasonably far away any corruption and located entirely under a mountain and the surrounding land.
So far, I'm gathering as much dungeon brick as possible to make a thin explosion-proof layer around the entire base, but from what I hear Hard Mode is pretty dangerous. Any tips?
