Awesome! My netbook is not only quiet but also not blazing hot now!
Beyond this, laptops and netbooks are somewhat optimized for running on a battery; which means they have very low power consumption. Overall, your computers probably cost less to run than the AC cooling down the room containing them.

...How does one disable a graphics card when its not being used?

You could always pull it out :P

There's probably some system setting to disable a piece of hardware. I'd HOPE there's stuff in there to do that!

AMD's HD7000 series have ZeroCore feature which shuts down the card if theres no gpuwork load and the display is off.

I've been reading the The Sims 3 LP that inspired Greatorder to do his, and the author linked to The Sims 1 soundtrack.
