The problem is tha logically, it makes sense, but it rubs the wrong way with how the brain expects things to work. Yotu brain says something that is soemthing is that something and not something else.

If you think about it really, really hard (without doing the math) it sorta begins to make sense, but it is still a hard concept to grasp intuitively.

Essentially, it can be resolved by saying it's not reality, and a there can't be a amount to an infinite degree in real life, it always comes down to somethign or another.

I don't know how we got into a discussion about whether or not .999 repeating is equal to one, but here's my explanation as to why it is:

1/3 is equal to .333 repeating, and .333 repeating times 3 is .999 repeating. 1/3 times 3 is 3/3, otherwise known as 1. So there.

And now hopefully back to discussion about Skyrim. Nevermind me, I, for whatever reason, thought that this was the TES:V discussion thread.

The only problem is that .333 repeating and .999 repeating both have the same problem proving they're equal to 1/3 or 1, respectively.

.333 is less than 1/3, .3333 is less than 1/3, and so on, for as many digits as you care to take. So you can only state that as more digits are added it "approaches" 1/3 not that it categorically is equal to 1/3 (even though it is). Not saying you're wrong, but you need a better proof in both cases.

Really, the question comes down to 'are you talking practically or mathematically?'

Practically speaking, 0.99999999~ of an apple is a single damn apple. Mathematically it might not be, but how often do you really care?

The girl who sits next to me in English is openly afraid of anything attached to science or technology, and us writing a paper on why not vaccinating children is a good idea. Why, and more importantly how, is someone like this in college?

Only when I'm feeling really really stingy.

I don't know either.

Is she planning to major in a scientific field? I'm assuming not, so at least there would be that comfort.

Pros of anti-vaccers: Self terminating once herd immunity goes under critical limit.
Negative: Plagues are not good things.

Maybe someone should tell her about polio.

No don't! We're culturing the anti-vaccers so they get the diseases and the diseases don't evolve to infect the vaccinated people.

That comic looks unfinished. I'm not sure what the weird circle in panel 3 is supposed to be.

It's an understandable mistake; they are very similar, after all.
