Thanks! I really appreciate the well-wishes - but I am doing great! I've just been exceptionally busy these past couple months with the school play.
That's right, you're a music teacher! What play are you doing?

For privacy's sake, I won't say which one - but it is of the golden age of musicals, so you can assume that, as music director, my hands were full.

Hello! I have to thank you, DS, for writing this. It's what got me into dwarf fortress in the first place, watching such an inhospitable embark zone turn into a delicately balanced fortress that against all odds has survived close to two years realtime and several DF regions. And coming back after a year's hiatus from the game to find Roomcarnage still trundling on warms my heart like the mountain itself  :D.

So, thanks for weaving this tale, and hopefully luck continues to shine on the fort!

(PS: What kind of temperature settings did you use to get an iceworld?)

I dont think he made an ice world, he merely embarked into a glacier.

I dont think he made an ice world, he merely embarked into a glacier.

That's not entirely true - I used a set of custom parameters to generate worlds that consist largely of glaciers and tundras, riddled with volcanos. If you look in Chapter 1, observe that most of the world is frozen year-round. Here are the parameters I used:

And you're welcome! I'm pleased that at least one person was inspired to try DF after reading my story. I hope you continue to check in when you are able.

PTW

This actually pretty interesting, I'm only on chapter 23 though. But I enjoy this thoroughly.

Very well! I've been overwhelmingly busy with work the past couple months (moreso than usual), but I've made solid progress this week. I expect the next chapter to be finished today or tomorrow.

Yay!
I basically refresh the forum every day to see if Roomcarnage has been updated.
This either means that RoomCarnage is amazing, or I have no life.
Or a mixture of the two.

And here it is - chapter 59! I'm rather proud of this one - it did take some time for me to get around to, but in the end I'm happy with it.

This may be the biggest cliffhanger in RoomCarnage history.
And that's really saying something.

Maybe you should copy the file, abandon, and check legends mode to find out what happened to the caravan.
Or release a save to the public and let us find out.

The anxiety of not knowing adds to the story I feel. It adds to the isolation.
