We have the new income from Lametanian co-defense. This brings income even to committed expenses (and without raising taxes!).
We got +3 from Cydwyl. This is money just sitting in the vault right now. We should be at 5 or 6, depending whether those prospectors cost anything.
Prudence is still a virtue, but we got this. Chill.

This is what we're worried about. Expenses are normally sudden, whereas income is normally steady. So "holding even on average" is actually a really bad thing, most of the time it's going to lead to us slowly sliding down until we run out of money. Now, we do have a lot of loose cash laying around, but it's going to drain away over time until we find new income sources, that extra jolt of cash is going to need to carry us until we get more money flowing in, so spending it extravagantly on things we don't really need is a pretty poor idea.

Respectfully, I'm pretty sure this is a sudden expense. The choice doesn't say anything about giving yearly.

The fiscal argument is sound, and indeed I am aware of the pitfall of even income. I'm just ... surprised ... that this would be considered so "extravagant." There have been voices worried about a resurgent Damdamia. Or even sudden betrayal by nearer neighbors. The army number has stagnated for many years as well, and it's been nearly as long since anything has happened to test it – since before our period of madness. Right now our treasury is greater than our army. We can raise taxes for a time if need be, but how else do we bolster our military?

Very well, if A is good enough for everyone else, it's good enough for me.

B Hmm. You do have a point about the concerns our safety from invasion. We really need to play it safe with our money after this if B wins though. At least until we can find another source of income.

We already gave up on our cannons for now, we wont have them for a few years either way, lets keep the treasury all right so we can go forward with the reforms and rebuilding.

This is certainly a valid expense. We shall have to sternly encourage the alchemists not to blow themselves up regularly, but this should not presently be a problem. More importantly, alchemy is now a significant part of our plans for gaining more money with the recent deal.
