Hey guys? Blue posted something in chat.

Quote from: our great and glorious GM
Note: If you knock him out, you will have to roll. If you fail, he smashes the vial

This does not sound like a risk we should take.

The thing is, though, that the Protinam - who specifically found no way to stop the plague if it got out - said that Erin could potentially fix the plague. Furthermore, Padel's plan - as I've stated before, and which Blue told me - was to release the virus, then release the cure to gain public approval. It's heavily unlikely that he wouldn't already have a cure available - otherwise that's horrendous planning, which Littlefinger is not known for, not to that degree - and if he doesn't, we've got access to a bunch of the virus. Erin could likely pretty easily engineer a cure based off of that.

EDIT: If Erin wants a reason from us for why not to shoot... first off, all the stuff about how Padel can be used as a way to get the plot off his and Celling's back, and second, by killing Padel he could be tried for murder while by subduing Padel he can get him tried for all his crimes.
Hell, Padel's trial could even end up getting Courtroom Drama tropes, and Erin would be the good guy in its plot. We could seriously have a situation where another Plot entity becomes extant driving Erin toward succeeding in the case against Padel and getting him properly punished for his crimes.

The Protinam don’t work like that™. The idea is that Erin Quill’s too complex for them to factor in, so all their predictions are based off “Erin Quill sits around twiddling his thumbs” as an assumption. The only issue is that when Quill is up and about he influences people around him, so they can only scan Antarctica when he’s actually sitting around twiddling his thumbs. But ALL their scans - of Argentina, of the plague, of the wormhole - can be made inaccurate by Quill doing ANYTHING - even killing Padelheb.

And I don't actually know what Padelheb's plan is. I should go figure that out actually...

Blue, we discussed over Discord Padel's infect-and-cure plot. I'm not sure how to post screenshots here in the thread, but I can definitely bring them up in the Discord!

EDIT: Pics are in Discord! I repeat, pics are in Discord!

Oh wait yeah that.

I probably shouldn't have said that, and I can't guarantee that it's cannon. I was just trying to point out one way he could gain from it.

I still don't actually know.

We can always explode the entire continent of antartica if the vial breaks, so the virus will infect no one EVIL LAUGHTER

You have chosen try to knock him out. We will now roll a d10 to determine the result.

1 = The moment of hesitation is enough for Padelheb to smash the vial and escape unscathed
2 = You miss and Padelheb escapes
3 = You whack Padelheb. He’s seriously wounded, but not quite down for the count
4 = Padelheb is knocked unconscious, but you drop the vial in the process
5/6 = You knock Padelheb unconscious, as intended
7 = You manage to take Padelheb alive and conscious, but injured
8 = You hit him too hard and he’s now almost dead, requires medical attention
9 = You hit him too hard and he’s dead
10 = Erin Quill flat-out chooses to disobey your intents and shoots Padelheb

Note that this means a 20% chance Padelheb escapes, 20% the vial smashes, and 20% Padelheb is killed accidentally. For a rapid, unpredictable action, where you have to intercede in something Quill is already doing, this seems reasonable.

Result: 10

...

I'll just let you react to that a bit

You're supposed to be able to think about things like this, mate."

Erin you little brat!... that's okay, what is done is done, the history will still be funny, but be warned, you just made the 4th wall pay attention to you again, you eliminated evil, now is chaos vs order liberty vs system. And now we will have to think on how to protect you from the legal system from the same nation we defend

to be honest, I am laughing my ass off

"Suggestion: be honest about what happened to the public, and also publish all of what Padel was doing - especially the virus (with some details removed so people can't recreate it or anything similar; make note that you did that in the publication) and his fuckery with the wormhole - at the same time, so that it can be seen that what you did was justified."

What Padel was doing with the wormhole, or the wormhole itself? The wormhole's existence is public knowledge.

Wormhole was public knowledge, or fairly public knowledge. Public enough for the old man rebel to see it as the symbol of Antarctican imperialism. Public enough, in fact, that there was no point to labeling it something different on a facility map.
What Padel was trying to do - widen it enough (by force, potentially able to destabilize it) so that he could put the disease vial through - both needs to be known as another part of damning evidence and so that people aren't asking "but how was he actually going to get the disease to South America?"
