He can still despawn though I think if you can get far away enough quickly.

Skeletron and the Twins will despawn if you go down a hellavator then teleport away. Destroyer will just chase you down, but he can be escaped by going up to a skybridge. He can only jump out of the ground so high.

Destroyer doesn't spawn unless you want it to anyway so it's a moot point in the regard of surviving hard mode hardcore

Nope! Now all the machine bosses can spawn randomly every night to help players "progress", like how the Eye of Cthulhu sometimes spawns when you've reached a certain power level.

I thought that was only Twins and Skeletron while Destroyer is summonable only? I haven't had any random Destroyers yet.....

EDIT: Looking at wiki I see you are correct :P My bad, I guess I just have been lucky not to get random destroyer but I suppose he is due soon in one of my worlds.

Well, the new invasion event and boss is a bitch and a half. Either alone is doable, together they might as well just autokill you if you aren't in a group. Time to build an arena I suppose.

Oh, Jesus. I barely even REACHED the Pumpking before the night was over. How the hell are you meant to kill the two Mourning Woods quick enough? I had a spectre set, too.

EDIT: Okay, so, vampire knives with flask of ichor works. Killed two Pumpkings.

Opened about 15-20 goodie bags, got a creeper suit, 2 vampire suits, fox and wolf suit, robot suit, 3 pixie suits, 2 treasure hunter suits (Lora Croft), and 158 rotten eggs.

Also was it anyone else's first instinct with the pumpkins to make a very large pumpkin?
