The good ol' visually pleasing combo of dumb For Honor pictures, Shook shenanigans and now even rotoscopes. Noice.

Been doing tribal Kvaksulu pics again.

What I particularly like of this drawing style, is that it defines well the anatomy of the animals (or human on your last portrait), and the disposition of the bands in layers gives a nice 3D effect.

Dumb For Honor pictures

You made this

Good job!

I think that's enough practice, need my own motions

Seeing Beavis and Butthead made me remember an old youtube video of those two playing Tetris

I wish i could find that video or even remember it fully.

Did this song on request for someone in FFXIV.

Battleship Mink - UN SQUADRON (Original)
Duna's FFXIV String Trio

Fun fact, FFXIV has done a promotion with FUCKING FENDER to bring a no-shit Stratocaster into the game, presumably after I sacrificed all those goats in order to beg the lower planes for more instruments in FFXIV.

Gonna use this song to calibrate my techniques tomorrow when it releases.

Misusing command-line text processors to databend images. This is the source image. I currently know of uwuify and rot13 (from hxtools), but I'm sure you could do something in grep or sed or whatever's cool with the *nix kids nowadays.

And with strategic use of pipes, you can automate this process all the way down to a single command. Look at this one that uwuifies the raw data of an image:

Code: [Select]
ffmpeg -i motherboard.jpg -s 1620x1080 -f rawvideo -pix_fmt gbrp - | uwuify | ffmpeg -f rawvideo -pix_fmt gbrp -s 1620x1080 -i - -f image2 motherboard-1080p-planar-uwu.png

That mess generates:

For some reason, that is a distinct effect from downscaling and saving as planar RAW in Irfanview, then running cat motherboard-1080p-planar.raw | uwuify > motherboard-1080p-planar-uwu.raw and opening it back in Irfanview. My brain tells me that should be identical (bar some hue-shifting), but no, it's different enough that I need to point it out. I don't know why. That process yields:

Don't ask me why. I'm baffled at how these similar-looking processes can yield wildly different results.

The ROT13 versions really only produce great results with Base64 encoding first, so the command needs to be extended to:
Code: [Select]
ffmpeg -i motherboard.jpg -s 1620x1080 -f rawvideo -pix_fmt gbrp - | base64 | rot13 | base64 -i -d | ffmpeg -f rawvideo -pix_fmt gbrp -s 1620x1080 -i - -f image2 motherboard-1080p-planar-base64-rot13-base64.png

Spoiler: Meaning of the command (click to show/hide)

Your base64 implementation may differ depending on your particular system, and you may need to change the switches a bit; consult your documentation for that. This time, the Irfanview and automated methods more-or-less agree, so I'll put them next to each other.

Trying to work on more interesting lighting and poses (also drawing the whole scene at once instead of just the characters and then slapping on a background...)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I could use some process advice. For colored light: here I put in the base colors, then painted the lit portions in another layer (with transparency), then just darkened the base color layer to make it the "shadows". Feels a little hacky to me, though it seems to work well enough. I wonder if anyone has a different (perhaps better) way of going about it.

This is nuts. You guys are nuts. I'm very impressed. I'm also reminded of [CMaj] Minstrel's Waypoint in GW2. (Their other activity with A Music Guild Tries... is hilarious but not inherently musical)

Well, much of digital art is about hacking if you want it to be! :P I think what you've got looks good for the style. One handy rule of thumb for shadows is that if the light is warm (red-yellow), you should make the shadows cool (green-blue) and vice versa.

I typically only work with colours on one layer, but it's not better. It just gives me more control over blending and boundaries, which are important for my style.

I've been pretty art blocked recently but I've done some things. Apologies if they don't load, I'm copying the links off Twitter which sometimes does weird things, because I'm lazy.

@Arx - Thank you!!! And yeah, that's the same sort of stuff we do. I like that alot.

Also, I love the pipe your elf has. He looks like the quintessential academic.

Approved heavily. Looks authentic, but has trademark Superdorfiness to it too.
