Looking for a decent single-player RPG for PC. Something exceedingly traditional in scope a la farmboy that goes from quests for killing rats in the basement of the local tavern up to battling ancient horrors that threaten to destroy the world. Party system would be nice, and I'm a fan of turn based combat moreso than pausing and unpausing to issue commands every six seconds.

I've mentioned Balrum a few times in different places. It fits here as well. You're a farm boy. Your first quests involve gathering lumber to fix your house (which was partially destroyed in a mysterious fire, ooOOoo), harvesting and then replanting a few plots of crops, gathering the beekeeper's lost bees, and killing something.

"Hybrid turn-based", in this case meaning everything is real-time but you enter turn-based speed during fights.

Such a variety. Depends what you want. I would suggest Pillars 2 or Subnautica. Battletech can be... draining, HOI 4 one is just a mod, and I haven't really seen too much of Vampyr so I can't say.

EDIT: I am seeing mixed reactions to Vampyr so take that how you will.

Can anyone recommend Star Trek Online? Big fan of the setting and just kind of looking for something different. Mostly a solo kind of guy though, so hopefully it can be played through on my own own without a guild or anything.

EDIT: So frustrating looking through MMOs again. Everything is just so much trash.

hmmmmm. i had solo fun with star trek online, its been around forever so the market is saturated with good quality stuff for cheap. stuff like rare bridge officers and stuff. most of the grind is for crystals? i cant even remember. i did a lot of public quests and random battles with the borg alongside other players, it was fun. the ground stuff is alright; im a engineer so i deploy stuff and take cover and open up with my phaser assault rifle. that was pretty fun too.

a good solo mmo is The Old Republic. its f2p now, which is good for solo story players; you're hamstrung as far as crafting and stuff but as a solo player its a little less important. you can just buy/loot better gear and the entire story is unlocked for you already. oh, and you can do most side missions without restrictions. the solo part is decent here but the mmo part? not so much

Ah yes, the insatiable lust of corn and rice, clearly two of the most erotic foods.

I'd love a game with a big focus on empire building. Especially space-based, growing from a tiny single system to a multistellar nation, sort of like distant worlds or Aurora but with more focus on empirebuilding.

@Jimbo, thanks my man. I do really enjoy TORs story and may get around to it again at some point--especially as I am not even through one class story line.

I'd love a game with a big focus on empire building. Especially space-based, growing from a tiny single system to a multistellar nation, sort of like distant worlds or Aurora but with more focus on empirebuilding.

Try:
Empire
Interstellar Transport Company
Stellaris (heavily, heavily modded--vanilla is lame as shit *and frankly mods dont make it THAT much better)

Also, why not Distant Worlds? It's still pretty much the gold standard.

Also Try:
Anacreon (found here on the forums, no experience, but may be what you are looking for)
various forum games, both here and elsewhere

Hey! Please recommend a good squad-based tactical game preferrably with permadeath.
What I've played:
XCom
WH: Chaos Gate
Jagged Alliance
Darkest Dungeon
Battle Brothers

IDK if this fits exactly, but you could try FTL or Bomber Crew?

I haven't played Almost Alive yet but maybe take a look at that?

How much could I regret playing Kingdom Hearts 2 without having played the first one?

Would I enjoy it much more if I played them in order?

I remember Kingdom Hearts being absolutely wonderful, so you should probably play it. Though I've never played any other entry in the series.
