Dwarf Fortress does lend itself to Mafia-type situations when you have a vampire in your midst.

The trouble is, the answer to the question "who among us is secretly a vampire?" is almost always "the new mayor".

That's what the Dwarven Sewing Machine is for.

Dwarven Sewing Machine
  • Choose a suitable enclosable space.
  • Line it with weapon traps, using upright spikes.
  • Attach said spikes to a lever.
  • Enclose undesired noble in trapped space.
  • Pull the lever... on repeat.
  • When the problem is resolved, cancel the job.
  • Unlock doors and clean up mess.
  • Repeat as desired.

Being dead is sad in games, but I'm good.

And Persus, I personally had a ton of fun in your game. I actually got to be scum, and win! (even if it was basically all 4mask)
Just saw this. Thanks.

I don't actually play DF, so I wouldn't be able to play a succession game. I would be a willing spectator. Also, if there ever is an LCS succession game, I'd play that.

Since no one else is offering, I guess I can run the Mafia DF Succession Game.  I'll open a thread tomorrowish, but I'm thinking the following things:

Vanilla DF
High savagery but not evil
Goblin access
Water access

That way there's threats from without (but not omgwe'reallgonnadie), but those RP inclined can make threats from within.  I'll probably make the embark 3x3 so it doesn't get as PC intensive.

If you have any input, now's the time (especially if it relates to embark.)

How about necromancer access as well?
It can be used in RP, and while very dangerous, it's not hopeless.

Oooo, try to start on a flat terrain. Preferably with a brook or river (nah, BROOK, or better yet, at a waterfall and we build in the chasm xD)

Are we doing aboveground fort? I like above ground fort, but am ok in any setting.

Should we do some caveats? (wall off EVERYTHING)

You have no idea how often I make aboveground forts nowadays, I think I make more of the fort above then below by now.

Also, +1 to the river/waterfall idea.

I have zero confidence in my ability to run an entertaining fort, or write about it in a convincingly interesting way, but it'd be neat if one of you guys named a character after me.

Should we have some Mafia-specific rules like "no finding vampires with DFHack or the relationships screen" and "yearly lynching sacrifices"?

I'll take a character and a turn, along with voting for Cheese's necromancer tower idea.

Above/belowground:  That's really up to the person whose turn it is, but if I'm on a flat plain, there will be at least some aboveground work (especially if there's an aquifer.)  River certainly, but I'll keep an eye out for a waterfall.

Defenses:  I'd rather not just wall up everything and easymode cage trap defense, but there's room to be creative.

Should we have some Mafia-specific rules like "no find vampires with DFHack or the relationships screen"

Yeah, I'd say avoid that.  I don't see a requirement for lynchings, but a nice dwarven execution room would be a solid addition to any fort (especially if you kick off a tantrum spiral).

Necromancer:  Tell me the best way to track one down and I'll try to settle nearby.

Turn/Dwarf requests:  Throw those in the thread when I put it up, but I'll try to trawl back and grab these.
