B, the dwarves did right by us the last time and we've got a bit of money to spare from selling the Southern territories (depending on how much a mountain of wealth goes for these days, of course) on top of that.

The worst case they will try to use it as advantage to create ANOTHER fortress.(Look, they have three chunks of lands, and they might not be paying nobody in the mountains.) But we can always deny to close a deal.

You send for the dwarves.

The dwarves arrive a week later, and these are different than the smelly crafters - these earth experts wear plain greens and browns, and they aren't very dirty.

"Greetings King Yoe. We heard our services are required so we come to offer them. We hear you need someone to check the soil and rock of your south land, and we can do that for a small price." They hand a parchment to the Treasurer, who reads it over and paces up to your Throne.

"We can afford that, thanks to the money we got from selling land to Salus IV."

A) "Fine then! Go and provide summary of the wealth of the soil in south of Methiant, dwarves."
B) "Let's negotiate the terms of payment first, dwarves - can we postpone it?"
C) "Naw, I changed my mind. Maybe some other time."

We could theoretically just sell bits of the country to the highest bidder, use the massive amounts of gold generated to hire dwarves to build us a fortress on the silver mines, spend some decades perfecting our mining technologies and sorcerous abilities (get a Sorceress to help at some point), forming a new breed of corporate civilization under a similar ethos of vertical building and unfathomable greed that birthed the dwarves.

Well, either that or sell everything and retire comfortably in the Republic before anyone notices what we've done.
