I did a calculation to see how much memory it would take to load up an entire DF worldmap in 3d at the tile level, assuming one byte per tile, allowing 255 colors of solidness.

2.5 TB

Depends what you want to store. I was assuming just color, and nothing else. If you want to store everything in a tile, then it's much more.
