Bay12 Community - For Realz
« on: December 07, 2010, 10:04:35 pm »

Okay, this is the thread for discussing the idea of a group of us joining together in some sort of communal living society. We'd have a shared kitchen and living area, and everyone would be expected to contribute.

Current State of The Plan
Note that this will likely change as the thread progresses
Spoiler: Details (click to show/hide)

Target Date - 2 years minimum, probably actually a few more, though people generally heading to the area before hand and meeting up is obviously fine.
Target Location - Seattle, Washington

If you are willing to commit, either as a shareholder or a renter, let me know and your name will appear below. Obviously, we'll need a certain amount of people to commit to this.

Target Date - October

Let's start by asking where you got that target from.  You mean October of 2011?  October of two months past?  I think they'd be equally plausible.

Yeah.

This is completely unfeasible for me for... oh, probably at least 7 years.  I have to finish Berkeley and grad school myself, dude.

Man if you want to start a cult you're seriously going to have to put more effort in than this

If it's near Seattle and I go to the University of Washington, I'd join. Of course, that'd be the school year after next, so no October for me.

Hah, tough crowd.  I'd totally be down in another life.  Or 6 years ago.

Very interesting idea, though.  I'd love to see something like this work.

Seattle is a nice fucking place.

I know it's unrealistic, but I can't help but imagine little bearded babies for dwarves. In my mind, they come out of the womb fully bearded. That's how the mother carries them around, too, she just drags them around by the beard or ties it to her belt. When the father's on duty, he just ties their beards together and the baby just kind of hangs there, swinging to and fro with Urist McDaddy's movements.

October of whenever. Just seems like a good month to do things. Obviously not October past, though. Come on people. It's pretty much all just filler while we discuss things. I'm sorry I put anything. I've changed it to a minimum - it will happen when there are enough people to make it happen.

I'd probably need at least two years to save up enough to be anything approaching a proper shareholder anyways.

In preparation, though, I am looking for a new job in Seattle because of this. Even if this thing never happens, I get to be in Seattle, and I've decided that is a good thing.

And LordNagash, who said anything about starting a cult?

It was implied.

I'm intending to move to Seattle in ~2 years, for work off the west coast post graduation if not for Grad School as well. If it's in the area, perhaps.

I'd just as soon get an apartment with a roommate or two though. :)

Well, if you decide to rent, that's essentially what it would be. :P
